Go into your Admin Control Panel, Configuration, and change the "Use SMTP for email option from "Yes" to "No".

Time to look for a new web host then.
If they are limiting you to that tiny number of emails per day, then you simply cannot do mailouts via phpBB.

The message is coming from a different source file now, but it's the same meaning, it cannot send the mails.
If individuals mails work, but then the mass email fails, it's the same reason, your host simply isn't letting you send them.

This is what my host said.............
SMTP is not going to work using a PHP application, you can only use SMTP
in Email applications like outlook.

That support technician is an idiot, ask for "Level 2" support.
If you still get no help, then you need to look for a new web host ASAP.

Here is the next reply I am getting from them
Hello there

You will have to use the phpmailer function on the forum mail settings
you have in order for it to work.
Best Regards

ric323 why are you saying look for a new host then?

the phpBB3 mass email approaches sending in a different way as I understand it

surely in phpBB3 the
Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 452 4.5.3 Error: too many recipients
is far less likely as emails are sent out in batches aren't they?

well IMHO :P this is the advice for limco

limco CHANGE TO PHPBB3 my friend!! the mass email arrangements there are more sophisticated and you will benefit from a total package of more sophisticated solutions 8-)

we all love phpBB2 to pieces, me included but  sadly it really is time to move on

...
If the limit is only 250 posts per day (as stated in the first post), regardless of if you or SMTP or the php mailer, then sending them out in batches isn't going to help.
also, if the support staff are that clueless, then you're better off finding someone better now.

Well, still this problem isn't fixed..........
This support over on my host are clueless and thier knowledge of php is next to nothing....
They are throwing every suggestion to me, but they can not get into thier thick skulls, that the mass e.mail worked before with 100 members- and not now with 150 members...
So putting in a smtp username & password, when it wasn't their before- how is this going to help?
I tried and Nope!....I got this
Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 503 5.5.1 Error:
authentication not enabled

DEBUG MODE

Line : 126
File : smtp.php
I totally agree with both of you...............change hosts or up grade- but besides this problem, the forum is working wonderful- and we have worked so hard with the forum to get it the way we were wanting- and the mods into place- plus I only changed hosts 8 months ago- as the other host couldn't handle the traffic-
There is some thing fishy here with this mass e.mail thing- as it was working before- know what I mean ?

It's a common anti-spam measure by web hosts, they deliberately fail sending the mail if there are more than a set number of recipients.
