I have an idea that may be implemented in Troll mod. When a user fails to login 3/? times at a board, then user has to enter CATCHA screen.
If this was not implemented yet(I didn't read all previous posts), can be interesting to introduce another inconvenience (1 of 4 troll login attempts may see the catcha screen) to trolls, thus it will take more time to login as a troll. ;)
I abandoned all of my mods.

You're running an older version of PHP, which is not supported.

Now, if you want. But you do at your own risk.

If I were you, I would. Nobody has reported damage from this MOD so far. But again, you do it at your own risk.

I got this working on my local (wamp) and did the same exact for my live. It works locally, but not showing up at my live server.
Copied files to live server.
Did the file edits.
Installed the sql, but had to do it manually.
Went to the ACP > Users and groups > User Security > added the Troll mod in the dropdown.
Enabled the MOD.
Purged cache
Went back to the users and groups and nothing showed up in User security.
Is there going to be any updates to this anytime soon?
Thanks

The work you have done here is great evil! :D

My community have just been forced over to phpbb3 and we badly need this mod after relying on its predecessor to keep unwelcome visitors out previously.... I had looked a while back to see if anyone had got far with a mod like this and if we were safe to upgrade but it didnt appear so

so anyway...... ive just experienced the line 34 issue and have removed troll_sleep file as I dont want to flag up the word 'troll' in any error messages................ but I still have the issue where it is impossible to change the seconds (odds) from 2 to 1 and this will be an issue for us to use in any live capacity as like your intentions this wouldnt be used simply to 'play' with people...... this would very much be a final solution for those who do not have static ip addresses ... and as such giving someone a 50% chance of success does not do the job.....we need someone to be hit everytime or almost everytime..... is there any solution for this yet? If there is then it is all that we need to motor with it

as a temporary solution would it be possible to change the odds from 'being hit' to 'not being hit'? ..... ie if 50 went in the seconds (odds) field then it would be a 1:50 chance of not being hit by the 'infection' ........... odds like these would be pallatable until the final version..... whereas a best odds figure of 1:2 of being hit really doesnt solve anything unless it is purely to pull on the pigtail of someone .... and I know this isnt what you intended

Also, although it is always daunting to read through 29 pages of posts.... it is ultimately interesting to see the progression of things and read through the various error messages.............however it does seem to me that either you are busy working on this in the background with coding around your ears......... or you have lost motivation

so if it is the latter please dont stop the awesome work as I am certain that there are thousands of forums who need your brand of help now and in the future..... more and more ISP's are steering away from static IP's and more and more clients are learning about and using proxies ......and this is the ultimate antidote

thx

p.s. we are using 3.0.4

sorry for the double post but this mod has been my job for the day

so along with a helpful member ive been testing this...... and even with the odds set on 50% it is still fairly effective (although would much prefer it to be able to be 100% effective) as the user never quite gets to posting or pm'ing..................... I like the tenacity of this troll mod and overall it is stronger than its predecessor

the issues for us started when it was time to 'forgive' the troll.......... the user went from the list in the ACP but soon reappeared in it after a while ............. so then we tried them closing the forum window, clearing their cache, me forgiving, and then them returning to the forum........... they reappeared in the list.............. then we tried them closing forum windows, clearing their cache, coming back to the forum and me then forgiving them........ they soon popped back on that list again

I have checked the SQL table behaviour and I dont think that is the issue as it definitely adds and removes the entries in line with what is happening in the ACP

So in short does anyone know how I can make sure that a client who has been on the troll list can be removed for good? Currently this is good for permanently banning people but not so good for making sure that temporarily banned people are able to come back

thx

ok ive figured out how to remove people now for anyone with the same issue

you have to disable the infection function first

I have to say that this is much more fireproof than its predecessor .... the phpbb2 one allowed people to easily clear their cache and register as someone else.......... this is not able to be got around on the client side as far as I can tell

Wow. Evil, I didn't know you were still working on this.

Keep on, please, but IMHO, a firewall is the very best way. I just drop 'em in the bit-bucket...
