Post by parasolx »

Hello there,

Yes of course, phpbb.com is my Guru and here I'm learn quite hard how to used phpBB as well as today. I'm glad to be a part of this community. Therefore, I would like to introduce to my country how perfect and so so great using phpBB to develop bulletin board.

Seems that my country is not fully English users, so I build this community special for my country. My website is develop using Drupal for portal and phpBB as replacing the current Drupal forum.

So, if any Malaysian's here are wanna to learn how to used the phpBB in Malay language, come to this community. But we also accepted English there.

I support exporting phpBB to other countries and your endeavour.

However, from my own personal experience I know that a few support forums under one large portal about something else doesn't work in the long run and it certainly won't attract as many visitors as a stand-alone site about phpBB would.

If you look into the International Support Sites section under Support here on phpBB.com, you will see what I mean.

phpBB Discussion is not for advertising your own personal support site. If you would like to have your site added as an international support site, please contact Vic.

I will go ahead and leave this topic open in case you have any questions regarding this.

Please note that Vic is extremely busy. So please give him the time.
Bumping this topic won't get him to respond quicker ;)

I also wanted to create a phpBB support for Philippines.
But, this is quite a big challenge. I do not know any Filipino here that can support me.
And yet, my phpBB skills are none.
Maybe if I created a validated MOD I might pursue.

On Topic.
Good luck anyway.

Excuse me for saying so, but if you're not familiar with phpBB, then maybe you're not the best person to start a phpBB support site.

that is a silly thing to say.

this software was developed with english as the primary language, therefore, the main support board is an english speaking board, there are many other support boards that are for other languages.

there would be little point in trying to have a single support board for multiple languages. It would be way too confusing for everyone.

Well, not necessarily. He might be just the right person to do it. :)

This is pretty much how phpBB Finland started.
Someone wanted to create a support site and was looking someone with phpBB knowledge to help to do it.
All it needed was one person to register a domain and push it forward. :)
After all, it is about community support. Someone with phpBB knowledge might be busy with their own forums to start another one dedicated for supporting phpBB.
With someone else setting it up for them is easier. They might visit it when they have time and give support without the need or pressure of being available 24/7.

I was simply pointing out that in order to run a community on a certain topic, it would make sense to be familiar with the topic. Otherwise, you run the risk of becoming alienated by the community before it even gets started.

If you require someone else with knowledge on the matter, then what is your role in the endeavor?
