Making a Urdu (Pakistan) Language pack :)

Post by Faisal Shah »

Hello,

Well, I just want to share this idea with you guys.

I just got an Idea to make a translation *Language pack which will be a URDU (Hindi) translation.

Urdu is Spoken in Pakistan and Hindi in India.

I won't lie. But I surely didn't knew. How to make one. I just downloaded the pack that is ENGLISH US and started editing. I mean translating.

The Writing will be in English Alphabits... As I want this to be useful for Urdu and Hindi people..

Actually Hindi and urdu by speaking matches a lot. But writing is different.

If i use the writing of Urdu (ROMAN) then the Hindi people wouldn't be able to use it.

So therefore I am writing in English Writing so Urdu / Hindi and all those who don't know their writing but know how to speak can try this pack out :)

Well, This is just and Idea. And I already started doing it. I am in common.php and did ~130 lines.

Though It will take time to complete lol. But I will try to finish it as soon as possible :)

I don't care if my pack will be official here or no I am just making it for fun ;)

But it would be pleasure if that pack gets official here :)

Thanks a lot :)

I am looking forward to see your replaies about this idea :)

FAISAL :)

We already have a couple of users working on an Urdu translation, so I'd suggest to contact them first to see if there is a possibility of bundling your efforts. See the languages page and contact the maintainer for the Urdu language pack to work things out.

As for not bothering about whether your translation will become the official language pack or not; keep in mind that we do not allow "releases" of competitive language packs here at phpbb.com, so you'd have to get your users solely from your own website.

Yeah, thanks got it.
I have a question.
Is this for the Urdu script or Devnagiri script.
If it is the latter, then the Hindi pac already exisits.
And one more thing, there are probably more Urdu speakers in India than in Pakistan.

HMMM May be , actually your right. But URDU is not the official Language of India. As for Pakistan it's their official language!

i would like to adopt the whole idea of Mr: "Faisal Shah". Today i got a challenge to translate some one's board from English to Urdu (EN Alphabet) and i think i can do it. i checked and found that it's not done before, it 'll be a honor for me to help phpBB Project to be available in Multi languages.

yes, i got all the information and thanks a lot for this.
Urdu language can be translated by two ways

1- Urdu

Example: کیا اپ انگریزی بولتے ہیں؟

2- Urdu (En alphabetic)

Example: "Do you speak English?"

i want to translate to 2nd one and 'll name it Urdu (En) with ISO Code Ur_en

is it ok?
