Changed Files update method 3.3.2 to 3.3.8 worked flawlessly.

Post by SQLnovice »

Kudos to The Team! 2.5 hours from start to finish, using the Changed Files method. Didn't have to disable any extensions. I simply disabled the forum, renamed the forums' styles directories, so I could restore any layout changes I've made over the years, and followed your script. Post install changes were easy to identify and remedy.

Very pleased and impressed with the new embedded canonical thread naming. I'm sure there are gobs of other upgrades/updates I've yet to discover. Everything went forward without a hitch.

I was holding up on doing any more updates because 3.3.2 was such a top performer, so reliable. I generally don't fix what's not broken.

However, we were having unresolved canonical duplicate page issues reported by Google's Search Console Insights, so we were hopeful the new embedded feature for that resolved Google's nag. Didn't even know that was in the upgrade, otherwise I would have done this sooner.

Great job TEAM!

I'm new here and to the forum software. It is quite technical, but I enjoy having the options!

I am wondering which theme is best for responsive mobile uses.

Nonetheless, my main focus in this post is to say Thank you! I much enjoy forums over other social media options. I plan on using the forums for support for my e-commerce store. I think it should work out just fine. :)

"Best" isn't really objective.
Most 3.3 validated styles are quite OK for mobile and it will really come down to personal preferences.
Have a look at the Released Styles forums: in many case there's printscreen showing the various resolutions.
And as always, trying out the ones that look most pleasing will help you decide which to use.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

I chanced it and used the Advanced Update (Expert users) method this time. By far the quickest of the update methods when updating within the 3.3.11's series! Just some grammatical nuances in the Install text, but other than that, this is the goto method for us from now on. ;)

My reasoning for risking a process that I'm not an expert at had to do with modifications to enough of our PHP files that the other processes are/would have been a lot of work.
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... _advanced/

I just followed the instructions as a script to follow and perform. Anything not mentioned, you can ignore. I simply used Firefox to perform the install/updates, sFTP for uploading the Install, Vendor folders and subsequent modified files, and in a little over an hour I was done. No hitches from exporting backups on the Host's site to Congratulations!
:ugeek:
Whomever performs the scripting and testing on this method did a great job! Thank you.
