I'd just like to thank the development team for such a great product! For a club site that I maintain, I had been using one of those "free" forum services with no features, obnoxious popup ads, lots of outages, etc. I knew that our regular web host supported PHP and I had even written some simple PHP scripting for our site, so I was very pleased to discover this BB support that is done in PHP and can run entirely on our own server.
I was able to install it and get it running easily, and have done a few customizations like adding a user profile field and supporting DST adjustment. I have had nothing but compliments from club members, many of whom are not too computer savvy. It's a bit more complex to use the forum now, but it is already getting much more usage than the old one.
i was trying to install phpBB2 @ cfp.com (LOL after reading a lot of stuff post here about it - "use search fuction ) - finally didn made it so i kept looking for another solution... -> lycos. I uploaded it , installed it. it worked !!!!! right the fist time i pressed the installation button . I´m really surprised coz i dont have a clue about SQL/html/php - just heard it.
Anyway i wanted to say "Thank You!!!" to all the ppl that made phpBB2 possible (keep up the god work) - never seen such a good free board (true;) ).
kudo's to the phpbb dev's / support staff / mod freaks for turning out a very good lil message board
i'm just recently getting into the habit of sniffing php, but even at this level of (non)profficiency, i can see very good code examples to learn from within phpbb pages
I recently switched from ASP to PHP so I could write a new site for a Linux Box (ChilliASP just doesn't cut it) and I am pleased to say that while I still can't write comfortably in PHP (I'll get there) my Forums work marvellously.
The ease of use, especially for newbies is a credit to the design team - the product looks great and does everything you could want. If it doesn't do something - there is a fantastic community of skilled individuals to help.
