[DISC] RPG Stats/Battle mod and more!

Post by Moogie » Thu Jul 24, 2003 4:32 pm

EDIT: 25th June 2004
Since I am no longer working on this mod (and in fact, not using using phpBB for much longer), another user has taken over - please see this topic:
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=198579

Thanks to everyone for all their support over the last... er, however long it's been since I first made this ;) All the best!

www.shiningforcecentral.com/phpbbmods

Since I have remote linking to my downloads disabled (damn leechers always sapping my bandwidth ;)) I have to link you to the above page from which you can download this mod (and my others).

I hope I'm going about this the right way, I've not made any of my mods this... er.. 'official' before!

If you want to try it out at my forums, by all means do - however, I don't have a Test account anymore as it was abused in the past.

Note that most of the mods don't use language files at this time, hopefully when I have more time I can sort this out. Meanwhile you can try them out and see what you think/spot bugs etc.

FEATURES

- Highly customisable through admin panel
- Allows users to select a class when signing up
- Adds user stats (HP, MP, EXP, PL, ATT, DEF and more!) to user profile
- Replenishes user stats when they view their profile each day
- Allows users to save/restore their stats/class
- Allows users to battle random monsters or set bosses
- Allows shop items to be usable in battle mode
- Shows user's status overlaid onto avatar - dead, poisoned, cursed
- Users gain experience for posting etc
- Users gain levels when they have enough experience
- Level up stat gains are based on their chosen class
- Users can promote to a higher class or change to a new basic class
- Provides a good basis for future mods, for example user VS user battles!
- Users can combine items in a Cauldron to make other items
- Admins can specifiy item combos for the above
- Users can stay at an 'Inn' to restore their stats
- Users can 'Camp' instead of using the inn... but risk various dangers!
- and more...!

Though I hope to be able to fix any problems you may find, I can't guarantee how much support I can offer for these mods, as I'm generally pretty busy and have only released them due to popular demand, not because I think they're perfect or that I can fully support them.

If you have features to suggest, I should warn you it's unlikely I'll be adding more to the scripts as they stand, though additional scripts like the quests and cauldron I've listed are always welcome as suggestions :)

This should be a good basis for other people to develop more RPG related mods and perhaps a user VS user battle mod :)

Hey Moogie,

You should look into making this system work with the new 'Cash MOD', which is like the "points mod" but quickly overtaking it, in regards to features and ability.

Anyway, just a suggestion :) I did look through the package and look like a lot of work went into it! Nice job!!

but the only that on the mod that works deals with the money is the shop, i haven't looked into it, but is it built in or does it require the item mod by zarath?
and by changing user_points to user_cash (i think it was that, or was it the other way around?) one can make it compatible with the cash mod.

I'm installing it :)

Two things for tjhe moments :
-templates files are missing
-at he beginning of the install file :
#
#-----[ OPEN ]------------------------------------------
#
templates/subSilver/profile_view_body.tpl

#
#-----[ ADD (where you want the stats displayed) ]------
#
{POSTER_STATS}

#
#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------
#

if( $board_config['points_post'] )
{
$points = abs( ( $mode == 'newtopic' ) ? $board_config['points_topic'] : $board_config['points_reply'] );

if( $userdata['session_logged_in'] )
{
$sql = "UPDATE " . USERS_TABLE . "
SET user_points = user_points + $points
WHERE user_id = $userdata[user_id]";
if( !$db->sql_query($sql) )
{
message_die(GENERAL_ERROR, 'Could not update user points', '', __LINE__, __FILE__, $sql);
}
}
}

#
#-----[ REPLACE WITH ]------------------------------------------
#

//---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//ADD POINTS & EXPERIENCE, check experience & gain level if necessary
//create levelup message to be displayed after posting

In which file should I find
if( $board_config['points_post'] )
{
$points = abs( ( $mode == 'newtopic' ) ? $board_config['points_topic'] : $board_config['points_reply'] );

if( $userdata['session_logged_in'] )
{
$sql = "UPDATE " . USERS_TABLE . "
SET user_points = user_points + $points
WHERE user_id = $userdata[user_id]";
if( !$db->sql_query($sql) )
{
message_die(GENERAL_ERROR, 'Could not update user points', '', __LINE__, __FILE__, $sql);
}
}
}
?

Thanks :)

also that code is for the functions_post.php, but i think she used a different or outdated points mod ;)

Code: Select all

<h1>{STATTITLE}</h1>
<p>{STATEXPLAIN}</p>
<form action="{S_CONFIG_ACTION}" method="post">
  <table width="99%" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" align="center" class="forumline">
   <tr>
     <th class="thHead" colspan="2">{STATTABLETITLE}</th>
   </tr>
   <tr>
   {STATCONFIGINFO}
   </tr>
  </table>
</form>
<br   clear="all" />
the admin stats body thingy.

great job moogie

in my opinion, i wouldnt drop support for the points mod. most people use it, it still has the most features, and napoleon has requested to become the author for it now (he made the quiz mod, activities mod).

Anyone have a demo of the arena part?

I havent installed it yet but i might play around with it and see what its like.
