So accept all changes when updating?

Yes that is probably the best thing to do. To my personal opinion it is more importand to have the phpBB core up to date than try to keep MODs from breaking during an update.

That’s why we have the MOD Database, which has strict guidelines. All MODs approved within the last year were tested on AutoMOD (Blinky), so you know that we’ve already installed them using that method. ;)

And, actually what happens when there are 10 mods installed?
In a vanilla installation blinky will work fine but what happens in a modded board?
Especially when previously installed mods use many replaces ...
That's why I love your mods, David... minimal core touch..
My mods in MODDB:
Add Homepage link in header - Change user activity post limit - Post number in viewtopic
If you need support click on the support tab there and post your question.
Do not PM me - chances of viewing my PMs are way thinner than viewing the support question in the customization DB...

I have installed a couple dozen MODs on a board using AutoMOD without producing conflicts with each other. Of course, they were randomly selected from the MOD queue, so that may not be a good test case.

There is a lot of code in phpBB3 that authors can choose to edit :)

Well, that's good news, then.
But to be honest, it is most unlikely for me to ever use it live.. I haven't used easymod in the past, and probably not going to use blinky now.
I like the "traditional" way of installing mods, because I want to know exactly what I'm doing...
But It will be very useful in my test forum and will save me a lot of time... :D

i have to agree that MODs should edit as little core as possible. will never understand the concept behind MODs that edit every phpbb file possible. :?

Wasn't it PacMan once? This is getting confusing... do you have an extra SVN for the name of the thing, too?

A_O_C: The official name is Auto MOD, the "nickname", codename or whatever is blinky :) Before it was MOD Manager and even before Package Manager - PacMan.

Remember how we call phpBB3 “Olympus”? it’s the code name for 3.0.x, same with AutoMOD, Blinky is the codename. :P
Also, because the name “AutoMOD” is fairly new, I use both in posts so that people can connect the dots. ;)

AutoMOD (blinky) is currently in development. you are free to checkout the trunk SVN using this URL:

Code: Select all

http://code.phpbb.com/svn/modsmanager/trunk/
note that AutoMOD is not supported, but if you find bugs, you are free to report them to the AutoMOD bug tracker.
