I recommend this program to anyone, as it can compare files/folders even through FTP. Really makes updating a breeze from the "Modified Files Only" package.
Just testing version 3 though. ;) Thx for the info. :)

Is there anything one should consider using the Automatic Update Package?

We have our own style and lots of MODs, so we want to be on the safe side here, that's why I am asking :)

The auto-updater does not update custom styles, it will only update the default styles which come with phpBB3, you will have to manually update the custom styles :)

Hi guys,

I'm now a little confused ... I dwonloaded yesterday the code changes and I'm half through and now read some confusing stuff about they are wrong ... On the download page I now only see "phpBB 3.0.3-RC1 to phpBB 3.0.3 Code Changes" ...

What are the correct codechanges now??

The one I already downloaded + the above one?

Thanks a lot,
femu

Thanks! And I actually updated the style during the night already (and the language files), although couple of revisions I could not make, but that's for later checking.

I am just nervous we will lose our MODs :D But apparently nothing to worry about using AUP?

The auto-updater is designed for updating modified board keeping the mods in working order, however no one can say if your mods will work for sure, there may be conflicts between your modification and the update code which you will then need to manually address.

Auto updater worked fine for my site, with ~10 modifications installed.

Which File to Download?

Post by Rehbar »

I have been following this forum since the release of phpbb 3.0.3. Now, I feel confident to upgrade to it. But, my board version is 3.0.0 . I want to know which file to download. Shall I download "phpBB 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 (zip) " from Automatic Update Package or some other file from some other package? Thanks!

They will no longer be provided, because they will in 99% of cases destroy users boards. They are not meant for updating. We only provide the language changes and the style changes in this format.

For updating modified boards you can use the automatic update package or the patch package.
Wow, that's sad news, Acyd Burn. :( I have so many mods installed and my forum's templates are so customized that the only way I had to update my forum was with the code changes...

I found code changes here, but I don't know if the text file is correct...
Yep, it is sad...I am on one way road :(
My board have so many MODs installed, and I can't update to v3.0.3 because there is not code changes for all changes (just template files and language)
Last 2 forum updates I did manually with code changes (it took me about 6 hours for each update), but now I am dissapointed.

Tell me, how will boards with many MODs installed update to new version?

If I try to use Automatic Update Package then many conflict will show, and which option I should choose then? How could I know which MOD conflicted with that line?
It is confusing, and for first time I must say that I am not longer going to update my forum because of not clear and good update instructions.
There is not automated MOD installer, and we must install mods manually but why then we do not have chance to update board itself manually?

Sunka, jmaraujo, and anybody else who has worries about conflicting MODs and the auto-updater: this may be worth a read. you will even see that this is also how one team member does it (first reply). ;)

But it is nothing than double job (I think).
If I do it that way, then I have to install again more then 130 MODS :(

it was a suggestion. i have about 75 MODS (most custom), and i do this every time phpbb releases a new version of 3.0.x because this way i know for sure whether a MOD is compatible with the new version or not. i would rather find out on a local installation than a live board.
