I'm glad for the huge problems fixed ..

For the mods installed on my board , it's clear that as some of you said that nothing to worry about since ther is an autoUpdater ...

But the most important is a saved copy of the board beffor doing anything

For me I use the auto-updater, I review each file the auto-updater wants to touch even if no conflict is found and changes are going to be merged. Where a conflict is found, I study why its conflicting and make the needed changes and upload the file and re-check the files till I have no conflicts and all files will be updated by the diff engine how I want.

Does it take time? So far with 3.0.0 -> 3.0.1 -> 3.0.2 -> 3.0.3 I might have spent in total 1 hour, so time needed to stay up to date for me has been small. Granted I only have 5-10 MODs. Previously with the code changes on phpBB2 it took my at least 1 hour per update normally and because it was just harder I was always slower to get it done. Now I get it done much quicker.

The only thing I would prefer is that the DB update is broken into two part, changes not effecting files being editted and changes that should only happen after files have been editted. This way if the file part goes wrong I can remove the install directory am not left with a half installed update while I get the issue solved.

I am just nervous we will lose our MODs But apparently nothing to worry about using AUP?

The auto-updater is designed for updating modified board keeping the mods in working order, however no one can say if your mods will work for sure, there may be conflicts between your modification and the update code which you will then need to manually address.

But still it is not fair...
One day we have option to download all code changes, and another day we do not!
It is not fair to anyone who have heavily modified board.
I have more than 130 MODs, and lot of custom template changes.
If I use Automatic Update Package then many conflict will show, and which option I should choose then? I do not know? How to know which MOD conflicted in that line, if is only 1 tiny change for example (let say something ADD IN-LINE).

What should I do? It looks that I will have to stay stucked in v3.0.2

With 130 mods? I'd say you are and there's nothing that can really be done unless you know what the MODs are and what code changes have been done so when you do a dif between your files and the changed files you'd be able to tell what's what. I didn't even realize we had that many MODDB-approved MODs!

Updated one of mine last night. Went without a hitch. Used BC3 to do it though along with install/database_update.php. I always like to look at what code changes have gone on plus I didn't want to overwrite any mods I have been working on. 2 more boards to go...

Blank page appears ( Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage ) during updating from 3.0.0 using the Automatic Update Package of phpBB 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 (zip) after getting the following message :

Merging differences
Currently collecting final file changes.

Please wait until phpBB has completed all operations on changed files.

What went wrong? Any help? Thanks in advance.

I recommend you keep all your mod installation files for later consultation. Furthermore, if you look at the conflicts, you may find that most of them are easily fixable (is that a word? ) by just moving a custom code block one code block further up or down with no changes in functionality. At least that's the case with my modded board.

I'm now a little confused ... I dwonloaded yesterday the code changes and I'm half through and now read some confusing stuff about they are wrong ... On the download page I now only see "phpBB 3.0.3-RC1 to phpBB 3.0.3 Code Changes" ...

What are the correct codechanges now??

The one I already downloaded + the above one?

For those who are worried about updating a board with many mods installed, you can try downloading the changed files only and then comparing them with UltraCompare (or any other similar software) with 3.0.2 unmodded equivalent files. Then just add (or remove) the differences in the code.

That's what I did. It took me about 2 hours to update all the changes, and now my forum is working fine and all the mods are working too (at least I haven't seen any troubles yet).

Last step I did was to run database_update.php from the install folder.

PS: It may not be the best way, but it save me a lot of time, he-he!

Guys... it is easy. Those having done their updates with the code changes package should download the patch files package and view the patch file directly in a browser. It is a little bit different to the text template, but you should get the hang of it. The blocks are "before" and "after", the line number is there and there are only three "indicators". + meaning, add a line. - meaning remove a line. And ! meaning change the line.

You should be able to go through the patch file the same way you go through the text file. The text file has numerous errors and will break your board due to the nature of the mod text file listing one change only per block. The patch file sometimes lists several at once. This is the huge difference and the reason why the tools we use are not always able to determine "the best way". Usually a developer would need to manually go through the generated package and re-checks with the patch file. But this anticipates +12 hours of work - and i see no reason why i should put a developers precious time on this if there are several methods to do the same.

We have our own style and lots of MODs, so we want to be on the safe side here, that's why I am asking

The auto-updater does not update custom styles, it will only update the default styles which come with phpBB3, you will have to manually update the custom styles

Yes , the Automatic Update Package update a modified prosilver/subsilver2 styles ( or styles that have the name "prosilver or "subsilver2" on the style.cfg ) .
So if you have adjust prosilver or subsilver2 , your style will be updated .
