Notice: Non-Compliant DBAL MOD Stance
This is an official notice that all MOD's that do not use the phpBB DBAL will be locked onsite, and download links removed, within 25 days.
This new stance is taking place due to a need to ensure the global phpBB Community a full-scale opportunity to use -ALL- phpBB MOD's on -ALL- phpBB Supported Databases.
This notice is to provide those MOD Authors who do not have phpBB (2.0.6) DBAL Compliant MOD's, 25 days to have your MOD DBAL Compliant, before your thread(s) are locked and all download links to Non-DBAL Compliant MOD's removed from public access.
The phpBB MOD Team will attempt to assist any MOD Author who this affects, for those seeking help updating your MOD's to be phpBB DBAL Compliant. (short of totally rewriting it for you)
A thread has been created to assist you at this link
, which will/can be use to aid you in your update of code!
To the best of our understanding, through looking at the few Non-DBAL Compliant MOD's, twenty-five (25) days should be sufficient and adequate time to successfully update any/all Non-DBAL Compliant MOD(s) to be phpBB DBAL Compliant.
We are aware this will affect a very small number of popular MOD's, but in order to keep and enforce our standards for the phpBB MOD Community, these actions have been long coming. It is our belief that Non-DBAL Compliant MOD's do more hindrance to the phpBB MOD Community, as well as the phpBB MOD Team, than they do aid or help the phpBB MOD Community and phpBB MOD Team.
What is a 'DBAL Compliant MOD'?
A phpBB DBAL Compliant MOD is a MOD that uses the existing Database Abstract Library (DBAL), which allows phpBB to interface the multiple types of Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSAccess, etc)
that phpBB currently supports. Any MOD that uses standard connection/query statements (example: mysql_connect() )
is a MOD that would not be DBAL Compliant, due to the fact that it does not use the abstract library to interface multiple types of Databases.
We will be happy to correspond to any MOD Author that has Non-DBAL Compliant MOD's, via Private Messages
. Be it clarification on this new stance, requests for time extensions, or further information on how to update your MOD to be phpBB DBAL Compliant.
