It isn't a direct requirement although it is the best thing to do to prevent possible problems with UTF-8 characters in usernames. As soon my last release is validated I'll submit an update that holds this change and a minor performance enhancement.

This update will fix the problem posted here, later today I'll submit a package that fixes the utf8 problem posted earlier.

Ah. I think this is an other utf-8 problem. Please try this fix. I think it will solve this.

I'm having to look at this more closely. I can replicate the problem, but I can't trace down where its starting. I'm suspecting the "♥" being the problem, but phpBB should be able to handle that correctly.

Looks like the heart wasn't the problem, I think the brackets are causing this issue. Could you please try the following fix (and everyone else to make sure this doesn't break other nicknames).
Open: includes/mods/functions_qubl.php; Find:
