Post by Famitsu » Thu Oct 02, 2003 5:07 pm

Last Updated: ...

Name: Email Confirmation Mod
Author: Kooky
Version: 1.0.0
Description: This mod will add an email confirmation field when a user will try to register.
Also if a user edits his profile, this field is already required
Main download: Email Confirmation Mod
Alternative download: here (not always updated)
Project site: http://perso.edeign.com/kooky/

* User have to re-enter his email adress to validate his registration (required field)
* User who edits his account and change email adress have to confirm his new email adress again
* Ban adress can't be confirmed and is not allowed
* Added error message when email adress and email confirm are too differents
* If Email Confirm field is let as blank, you have an error message with empty field required
...

Future plan:
* Maybe enable/disable email confirmation via adminCP
* any idea ?
* rewrite code to remove lines which won't be necessary

Needs:
* Needs some tests on some phpBB version
* Works with phpBB 2.0.4 to 2.0.11
* Report some errors or code does not usefull for this mod
etc...
* Needs other translation than english and french send me by PM (to include them into the full archive) or post them here ^_^

if in your phpBB admin you have entered few email addresses in the ban Control Panel, these adresses can't be confirmed in registration
but also true for 1st email field :)

the result is an error message which ask the user to change his email

I was teting is this script was working or not, so I went to EDIT profile and left my original email as it is and changed my confirmation email box to soemthing else and I got a message saying "Email already taken by another user" isint it supposed to say "Email address doesnt match"?

So i tried it again this time I changed my original email address to something else and changed my confirmation email to something else, this time it says "Email address doesnt match"?

the second time it worked as it is supposed but the first time it doesnt say the message that it is supposed to say, can anyone help me?

i think that come from this line

Code: Select all

			$error = TRUE;
			$error_msg .= ( ( isset($error_msg) ) ? '<br />' : '' ) . $result['error_msg'];
By default, phpBB is not based to check email address twice
so original code can produce a weird message

But the main thing is it works :)

Maybe try this instead of the code above:

Code: Select all

			$error = TRUE;
			$error_msg .= ( ( isset($error_msg) ) ? '<br />' : '' ) . $lang['Email_mismatch'];

I had an idea, don't know if it would work for this or not. I get a lot of users that never activated their account, they signed up, but never clicked the link. it's silly I think. One thing I've seen sites do is make the registration a two step process. First step is given the email address, when they go to the next step the pages says to continue the next step please click on the link you recieved in your email. This way, it makes sure the user is activated while registering. and if they never activate then they never really wanted to be a member, right?

just my two cents.

i'm sorry but there is no reason that an user leaves this field empty :? except if he doesn't know read :!:

The error message return with an empty field for confirm email is correct
The user can't submit his email with the same address

i see no error in with this error message.

Looks like the link to the mod is down again.... I also am in dire need of this mod. It really should be basic functionality of the default board install, and not a mod, but I'll take whatever I can get at this point.
Thanks to the mod creator for seeing the need and fulfilling it.
