Sticky and post order

Post by Ascent »

Is there an easy way for an admin and moderator to be able to order stickies or also posts. For example I have done 4 stickies but I would like them in a different order.

Sticky 3
Sticky 2
Sticky 4
Sticky 1

and I want them

1
2
3
4

Any way to bump them up?

Also any way to make a certain forum organize its posts alphabetically?

This is not hugely important but there are a few things I want to do and this would help a lot

Is it not possible to change the order of skicky posts? nobody knows how our is not possible. If not possible pls someone say so. I have Sticky posts that I want to order. When I make new sticky posts I don't want them always to go to the top of the sticky posts cause maybe not as important as others already there.

I have tried unsticking older stickys and resticking them but they don't go to the top they go to where they where.

This is going to change anyway depending on user settings in the UCP. So even if you see them 1234, a user may see 4321.

So there is no way for me to set the order posts/Stickies that a user sees?

Like my (subjective) order of importance:
Stickie 1 (I decide has importance A, top level)
Stickie 2 (I decide has importance D, least important)
Stickie 3 (I decide has importance B)
Stickie 4 (I decide has importance C)

I want them to be listed the same way for all users, no matter their UCP preferences:
Stickie 1
Stickie 3
Stickie 4
Stickie 2 (with importance D, least important)

It doesn't have to be stickies, posts in a locked forum would work just fine. It's for a FAQ with static information, by the way.

I think this was the original question from Ascent back last year, and it definitely is what I would love to know, so I hijack the post. ;-)

Thanks,

Hijacking this hijacked thread ;)

I would also like to be able to have "stickies" placed in an order, to remain that way regardless of the users settings in "sort by". (similar I guess to forum placement?)

Cheers

There are several MODs that do this - one is called "Topic Cement".

Thanks. Perfect. Works like a charm.
I even applied it to my favourite style (redsteel). I had juste to change the 19% value proposed below for the prosilver style to 15% and it worked very well. I'm using phpBB 3.0.8.

Code: Select all

Open: styles/prosilver/theme/content.css
Find

Tip: This may be a partial find and not the whole line.
Code:Select All

dd.lastpost {
	width: 25%;

Replace With

Tip: Replace the preceding line(s) to find with the following lines.
Code:Select All

dd.lastpost {
	width: 19%;

A Topic Cement mod for 3.0.x is all well and good, but how about a Topic Cement mod for 3.1.x? is anyone working on this?

Extensions requests for 3.1.x should be made in the appropriate place, which would be, [3.1.x] Extension Requests.
                      Support Request Template
3.0.x: Knowledge Base Styles Support MOD Requests
3.1.x: Knowledge BaseStyles SupportExtension Requests
