I need tutorials for installing the language packs

Post by John0000 »

I have been searching and all I could find was this:
Installation of these packages is straightforward, simply download the required language pack and unarchive it into the languages/ folder. Please ensure you retain the directory structure when doing this!
I installed them (5 of them) to my languages/ folder, then installed the images to prosilver and subsilver2. I logged in as both admin and as a regular user and both times nothing. "Brittish English" is still the only language available.

I also tried purging the cache and that didn't help either. And I looked all over the ACP for anything that says "Install Languages" or what not. I found nothing.

If somebody could please point me towards a tutorial I would appreciate that. Or if there is something simple I can do quick to fix it that's even better. I'm no expert at this but I'm trying my best.

Thank you but my problem was that I could not get them to show at all. It is solved now though. I just now found this:

neonrider wrote:Can someone post detailed step-by-step instructions on how and where to install a Lithuanian language pack?
Download the Language pack from the Languages page.
Follow the instructions at http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentat ... m_language

Unzip and upload the files to your board's language directory.
Go to the Administration Control Panel -> System tab.
Click Language Packs in the left menu.
You will be presented with a list of installed and uninstalled language packs.
Click Install to install the language pack you just uploaded.
I wanted to post it here in case anybody else is having the same problem. I have just spent hours trying to figure this out and I know somebody else could be having the same problem.

John0000. welcome to phpBB.com.
In order to install a language pack, you need besides send your pack to the /language directory, acess your ACP, clicking on the tab "System", and later on the "Language packs" option on the left side. There, you can install and/or uninstall your language packs added to the folder.

First, I did downlaod the langiage pack as a zip file on my hard drive.
When I extract the file befor uploading, I get the following folders in the attached photo.

Do I have to uplaod all the files indvisulally, or some of them.

alan77, after downloading your language pack from:
 http://www.phpbb.com/languages/

Just upload it into your /language directory, extracting the path containing your translation. Acess you ACP (Administrator Control Panel), and clicking on "System" tab, acess the option "Language Packs" on the left side. There will contain the language packs wich are present in your /language directory, with options to remove, install, uninstall...

ok i'm missing a step here, I've installed a language pack (ru) so now I show 2 languages installed. BUT when I go to the forum as a user there is no selection box. I've read in the install procedure to "allow" the user to select but have not found that trigger.
Can someone point me in the right direction so that language selection shows on the forum?
Thanks,
Paul

You can change the language in your user control panel (Left top) -> board preferences.

Aw that's where it was hiding LOL
Doesn't help the user much unless they are well versed in using their control panel.
Isn't there some way of having a language seletion box on the page?
Better yet, Google has a language box that can be added that will change the entire site or forum to the users language.
Can you direct me to the page, header or what ever that I can add the script to?
Thanks,
Paul

Look at the MOD forums to see if there is a MOD for it, or open a request in MOD requests.

been there done that, all that's availible is the language packs that changes icons, and some text but not the whole page like Google Translation does.
I'm running the standard subsilver2, can you tell me which file I need to edit to add the google script to so it shows up in the header?
Thanks,
