I just installed it in my site.
I get an average of 7 spam registrations in a day in my website. let me see how good this works avoiding spams from registrations... by forum settings spams have been avoided from posting but at the cost of avoiding guests from posting. let us see how this works good.

let me take a week or so and get back with my feedback. wish me luck :)

update: 04/17
Its now 24hrs since I installed this bot and it works fine. not a single bot registration till now. I think phpBB could go ahead and make this part of their phpBB package. Bots exploit the visual confirmation by the background of the image, its a single color background which is identified and removed .. leaving behind the visual code which can be read. This Mod uses images as background so multiple color so bots is not able to exploit. good job.

The same here... I'll post my results in a few days.. But I saw that Fridge reported it working well, so I have a lot of hope.
Thanks a lot for this very useful mod! ;)

If you need support click on the support tab there and post your question.
Do not PM me - chances of viewing my PMs are way thinner than viewing the support question in the customization DB...

I was getting pages of inactive users daily and I started to get spammers really bad on my forums. This really worked. No inactive users or spammers in a couple of days now. Thank you for this! :D

I've installed this, I have the confirmation settings set to enable CAPTCHA, but my image is still the default one. I've purged the files and rebooted the server a few times now, no luck. How should I troubleshoot? I'm running this on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise box.

I have the same problem! Purge cache, have all the image and are uploaded to includes/captcha, have GP CAPTCHA enable. It display the default one!

Edit: Never mind, had forgotten to edit one line!

this is odd, I have no option to enable gd captcha.. I have the option to Enable visual confirmation for registrations and for posting, that is all.. I have been using visual confirmation this whole time except in the last week bots have been getting through..
I have phpbb 3.0.4

any help would be appreciated.

In your ACP, under the System tab click on the PHp Information link. You'll get a very long page of information on how the PHP server is setup.

Scroll down to the section dealing with GD and check how your host is running things. I expect they've disabled some needed option.

Download the file in the first post, unpack the archive on your local machine, open the install.xml file in your browser for further instructions.

This MOD can stop the majority of bots from registering to your forum.
But it can't stop the bots which have been activated from posting spam posts.
And it can't stop the human spammers.
