Download FileMerge or WinMerge or any other similar tool, download phpBB 3.0.4 and 3.0.5, use that tool to compare files. It will show you all file changes.

this is, of course possible.
another way of doing it is to check out (using svn) branch 3.0.4, copy all your files on top of it, and then use svn to update to 3.0.5.
this is the beauty of open source: the actual repository is exposed to the public, and we can use it to track the development or to help us maintain our private code in sync with the main upstream repo.
the advantage of this method is that you are automatically ready now to update to 3.0.6 etc, and it may be easier to do than manually merge the changes.
of course, you will still have to manually run the db upgrade, but this is also true for what CyberAlien suggested.
(and, btw, you can always use svn to get the comprehensive diff between any two revisions by running "svn diff -r rev1 -r rev2". in the case the revisions are tagged, e.g. 3.0.4 and 3.0.5, you can use "svn diff -r TAG1 -r TAG2")
standard disclaimer:
backup your db and files before you do anything.
absolutely no guarantee.
if you do what i advise and it blows in your face, all you'll hear from me is: "ah... sorry, i guess"

While very true, I think you would find that only a very small % of your average phpbb users have the technical skill necessary to utilize a method more appropriate for devs & SCM types, and those types already do it that way. ;)

I suggest you give the updater a shot. It is designed to update modified boards, and it works much better than manually update the installation (its a big update ;)).

Hey, Congratulation on the update... :)
I want to ask: how far the next version 3.0.6 maybe released ?
and what if there is a bug in the current version, ( like the polls not showing in Pro Silver style as I noticed here while posting this ) will it be a quick fix given for this kind of bugs or you will go for releasing next version immediately?

Bug goes to Bug tracker > phpBB 3.0.x
but pools are fine in prosilver ( at least for me ;) ), check your permission

The next version will be ready when it is ready, but I would be surprised if it is not several months until it is released.

I did the auto update and didn't have too many issues. I have about a dozen mods and a completely customized theme I created myself based on subsiler2 and the milleniumFalcon theme from the phpbb2 days. I had several conflicts with prosilver and subsilver2 but I wasn't really concerned with those as I don't use them on my forum.

After everything was done, I used the codeChanges download and edited my theme and language files (en_us since my board is based in America) and everything went fine...So far. Haven't noticed any issues yet and no one has seen issues either.

Like a lot of others I would have really preferred using a codechange file for everything since I don't trust anything that auto updates, but whatever...

Edit: Perfect...and now I see the codechanges have been released...I should have waited LOL

I'm sorry if it was posted before but english is not my first language and I searched for it but i not finded it.

Since I updated from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 I have a lot of trouble with the cache. Almost every day the forum is unaccessible even for me until I empty the cache via the ftp program.

Because most of the members of my forum are spanish and I am argentinian, we have a 4 hours gap when the users are desperate and anoying (and leaving the forum).

Apparently I am the only one with this problem :?:

How can I solve it?

Thanks.

Ok, well, i have read this thread from page 1 (!!!) and i have noticed a constant in regards to MODded boards. It appears that while the majority of people have no problems using the "auto update" feature, some users ARE having problems.

I have also noted a lot of posts from people whining and whinging about code change releases etc.

With my board (located here) i came in at phpBB 3.0.4 as a complete n00b to the system. That said, i did download a phpBB 2.x.x version some years ago, but did not install it due to the complexity of it. Now however, i can get by quite easily. i know a little javascript, some html and since running the board, some php. so what exactly am i getting at here ?? well, I downloaded and installed 3.0.4. I started MODding it, BY HAND CODING the mods before finding auto mod. that period of hand coding the mods set me up pretty well and allows me a "little" knowledge of php that has helped me to create my own MOD (yet to be validated i might add !!!).

IN SHORT, those who are NOT prepared to "get their hands dirty" and do a little hand coding/insert/edit a few lines of code in conflicting files need to either back off, learn a little patience and get to work, or go learn some php, however, if a person choosing to install and run a board chooses not to "learn" about that board and its complexities, should they really start ?. Alternatively, if the board was a "1 click" server install, should the person who starts the board learn more about the phpBB boards before they do so ?. Granted, some people do not find it easy to install a BB, some people have absolutely no knowledge of phpbb boards or how they work, while some (myself included) have a little knowledge of the phpBB system (through the determination to learn) and a few MODs installed on that board whilst others are phpBB guru's and have heavily modified boards.

In such circumstances i can honestly understand the frustration that they face, yet, if the auto install feature of the 3.0.5 release SHOWS the conflicting pages offers options for what to do and allows you to download the pages to reload them and recheck, i cannot see that there should be a point where "hours" of work come into the frame.

On the other hand, i can also see that people would be asking if at least "some" if not "all" of the current MODs in the MODDB could be included in the latest release, yet therein is the problem. Some features may not be wanted. On the other hand, considering the number of MODs in the MODDB, surely the developers of the phpBB boards would say no to including ALL the of the mods in the next release due purely to the great number of them. not to mention that some may conflict witrh each other and may even introduce security breaches to the coding.

With all that said though, i have just updated from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 in under 10 minutes. I simply uploaded the new "install" pack, hit on the install url, had a few (around 20) conflicting files, chose what to do, downloaded them, reloaded them to the server, rechecked the files, JOB DONE with no problems.

Overall, it was so painless, so easy, so fast and so hassle free that i will gladly do it again this way.

To the developers of this board system THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION and for such a fantastic release pack. A great job EXCELLENTLY executed
