Nothing happens? Do you mean you are still looking at the login page? There are no messages such as "Incorrect password?"

The files and database need to be on the same server as the phpBB3 installation and the files need to be in the same domain. If you are using subdomains, the files need to be in the same subdomain
Does this mean i cannot convert my vbulletin forum at www.mydomain.com to a new phpBB forum at www.mydomain.net? or have i misread that info?

You have not misread the info. The files have to be in the same domain. The database can be somewhere else if you can access it remotely.

Sorry i still don't fully understand if its possible or not. Are you saying, if i backup my vbulletin forum, download it, then upload it to the new domain's FTP, the conversion will work? Yes i can access the vbulletin databases through cpanel on my old host.

mydomain.com/forum - would be the vbulletin forum i download
mydomain.net/forum - would be the vbulletin forum folder i upload
mydomain.net/index - would be phpBB install location

What I meant by "remotely access," is being able to access the database from another server. Some hosts do not allow remote access. If they do allow remote access, there will be a Remote Access icon in the cPanel database area alongside the phpMyAdmin link and MySQL Databases link.

Ah right thanks. Looking at cpanel there is no icon for remote access. In the mysql icon, there is a section above the phpMyAdmin section to add "access hosts" by IP. Is this it? I don't think it is but thought i'd check.

"access hosts" is the one. You will need to enter the IP address of the server you will be accessing from.

Just a query. The conversion I have done but the content is a few weeks old. Is this due to the download of the forum folder being old? Ie if i were to download the forum folder today, upload it to new site, then convert. It will convert all threads up until the time i downloaded the forum?

The forum folders have nothing to do with the content. The content is stored in the database. When you converted, either you connected to a database with old content or the convertor did not convert all the posts. I have seen situations where the convertor will convert only the older posts and drop the newer posts. I don't know the exact cause of this, but it seems to have to do with server resources and the server timing out but not displaying any errors. You could try increasing the server memory limits to overcome this, but the best solution I have found is to do the conversion locally.

I did think it was the databases but linked the fact i backed up the forum last month to the latest dates showing up in the new forum.

How about deleting redundant forums? I have around 25 forums with hundreds of threads, many more posts in from a few years back now, mostly by members who don't visit any more so post count loss won't be much of an issue although isn't there a mod to set post count manually? either way would deletion of said forums help out?

Failing that, a full SQL back up within phpMyAdmin of the old database, and upload that on to the new server? Would i then be in a position to do the whole conversion locally? Or will that not work either?
