"As any web developer will tell you, working with IE 6 is one of the most difficult and frustrating things they have to deal with on a daily basis, taking up a disproportionate amount of their time. Beyond that, IE 6's support for modern web standards is very lacking, restricting what developers can create and holding the web back."

sounds great...can we get a demo?

I would like to see what type of banner it is...like if it is placed inside the design of a style or if it works as a frame kind of like the DiggBar.

Its just a div that appears like the one that appears when you turn your board off, in between the breadcrumbs and forumlist body. From what I can see in the ModX file it blends in with your style. You might have to adjust the width a bit depending on what style your using..

Screenshots added above...

Since this banner will only be available to people using IE6, it is not possible to directly test it if you have upgraded already to IE7 or IE8.

But you can actually visit a really cool site to run a virtual-version of IE6 in your current browser, and you can see how it looks, here http://www.xenocode.com/Browsers/

Possible dumb question...Does the little X at the corner close the banner? As much as i'd love everyone to stop using IE6 I do have members who use office machines (or rely on grandchildren coming round to help them update their computers!!) and cannot update and don't want to annoy them too much.

Yes. But when you reload index page, banner appears again.

If you want banner that appears only once at first opening of page, try JS method used in "CA Vintage" style.

You guys should also encourage your users to upgrade to IE 8 if the have IE 6, but to install the new version from http://www.browserforthebetter.com in order to donate to charity. 8 meals are donated to Feeding America for every complete download of Internet Explorer 8 from http://www.browserforthebetter.com through September 30th, 2009. However, for every user that updates IE 6 to IE 8 from http://www.browserforthebetter.com, 16 meals are donated! So download, install, and spread the word!

You can avoid annoying registered members by replacing this:

Code: Select all

<!--[if lt IE 7]>
  <div style='border: 1px solid #F7941D; background: #FEEFDA; text-align: center; clear: both; height: 75px; position: relative;'>
    <div style='position: absolute; right: 3px; top: 3px; font-family: courier new; font-weight: bold;'><a href='#' onclick='javascript:this.parentNode.parentNode.style.display="none"; return false;'><img src='{T_THEME_PATH}/images/ie6nomore/ie6nomore-cornerx.jpg' style='border: none;' alt='{L_IE6NOMORE_CLOSE}' /></a></div>
    <div style='width: 713px; margin: 0 auto; text-align: left; padding: 0; overflow: hidden; color: black;'>
      <div style='width: 75px; float: left;'><img src='{T_THEME_PATH}/images/ie6nomore/ie6nomore-warning.jpg' alt='{L_IE6NOMORE_WARNING}' /></div>
