The MOD requires the installation of mimeTeX and uses PHP's exec function.
  1. Go to the mimeTeX webpage
  2. Scroll down to "Precompiled Binaries"
  3. Download the binary file depending on which OS your server is running (if you don't know, go to the ACP->System->PHP Information)
    .

My server is linux i686. it's not listed in the Operative system there.. what should i do? i can't install it?

Linux i386 should work. I believe it is compatible with 686.

1. Are you sure you specified the correct absolute path?
2. What does your error log (you can usually find this in your hosting control panel) say about mimetex.cgi?

Re: Crazy Maths CAPTCHA Plugin

Not to be overly geeky or anything, but the example question is (sin(x))(x)/(2x)=42, which simplifies to sin(x)/2=42 or sin(x)=84, but the sine function ranges from -1 to 1, so it's impossible to solve. Just saying ...

I just couldn't help it. That's been bugging me ever since I first saw this mod, and I finally decided I had to say something. For extra geek points, I would also note that even if the value was between -1 and 1, the solution would still be ambiguous because the question doesn't specify whether x should be in degrees or radians :)

Ordinarily, you'd assume it's in radians if there's no symbol, wouldn't you?

I've given a link to the image to my mods in case anyone complains about captchas in the future :D (the fact that the question has no answer is only a bonus!) Sadly, I can't really use the mod myself since I think my users would revolt.

Are you sure you got the correct binary, put it in the right folder and specified the right folder in the ACP?

Could you (in your webbrowser) go to www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?test
Is there any output?
