Error in translating phpBB3

Post by FarCry3r »

Hi all, I'm new here and I have a problem translating phpBB3 (latest version), so let me get straight here.

Whenever I uploaded modified files to the appropriate folder and replacing the original file, I always get:

Code: Select all

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line...
error when I tried to view that file in browser. Why is this happening? When I restored original file, it works fine though. I'm out of idea now

It would help if you posted the entire message, but I am guessing that you edited language files and did not save them with encoding UTF-8(w/o BOM). You should only be editing with a better Plaintext editor, such as Notepad++

What's a BOM anyway? I've used Notepad2 and saved it as UTF-8 but the problem still persist.

That is your problem then.
When you use regular Notepad, it saves it as UTF-8(w/BOM), which puts a Byte Order Mark at the front of the file. This mark is read as garbage, and messes up your cookie.
