Moderation Issue

Post by gs2088a »

I hope that you smart folks out there can help me with something. I worked for some time last night and couldn't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Here is the situation:

Forum "A" - Actually a Category
_____Forum "AA" - Subforum of "A"
_____Forum "AB" - Subforum of "A"
Forum "B"

Forum …..etc

Forum "X" (for posting by people in group "X" only)
Forum "Y" (for posting by people in group "Y" only)
Forum "Z" (for posting by people in group "Z" only)

User "A" is a member of:

Registered User Group - moderation queue on every forum

Group "X" - on moderation queue in all forums, and used to keep everyone except members of this group from posting in forum "X". This works fine. Haven't tried any person as non-moderated status in forum "X".

Group "Y" - on moderation queue in all forums, and used to keep everyone except members of this group from posting in forum "Y". This works fine. Haven't tried any person as non-moderated status in forum "Y".

Group "Z" - on moderation queue in all forums, and used to keep everyone except members of this group from posting in forum "Z". This works fine. Haven't tried any person as non-moderated status in forum "Z".

Initially, all people are moderated, and the member is in the above groups. All the groups are on initial moderation queue for the forum "A" and "AA" (to make this simple).

Last night I tried to put "User A" on non-moderated status for subforum "AA". I added them to the "users" side by username, and modified the forum permissions there to allow them to post without approval, but it didn't work (meaning it took the change in the permissions area, but still put it in the moderation queue).

I then created a special group "S" for the people, added them to the group, and set the group so they could post without approval, added them to the group side of forum "AA"; but no cigar, it still didn't work (puts the post in the moderation queue).

As a final ditch effort, I removed "User A" from the registered users group and made group "S" their default group, still no help.

So what's up? I want to be able to have all people (except admins, which is working AOK) initially be on moderation; then on a selective basis, by forum, allow non-moderation on a user-by-user basis.

I have several friends that are members of this board, who I trust completely, and I don't want to have to moderate their posts. PLEASE note, that allowing their non-moderated status, without giving them ADMIN or MODERATOR status, even in groups "X", "Y" or "Z" is also desired.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Use the user-based permissions mask to see where the moderation queue is coming from.
I can stop all your spam. I can upgrade or update your Board. PM or email me. (Paid support)

Between my post, and reading your reply, I figured out what was happening. For about 25 years, I've worked on systems called Tandem Non-Stop (now owned by HP, so officially called HP Non-Stop -- but they will ALWAYS be Tandem Non-Stop to me). They have what is called GUARDIAN (OS) security, and SAFEGUARD security.

Basically Guardian goes from loose to tight; meaning you increase security as you go down to the subvolume (folder) and file level. SAFEGUARD in the other hand does it opposite. You tighten security at the top level, and lessen it as you go down to the file level. So, with SAFEGUARD, you can lock the person down to one file, if you want, with just two commands. In other words, you have to explicitly grant them access to something.

This is what happened here! I was thinking the SAFEGUARD security; tighten, then loosen.

I just finished modifying the security on the board, and now it works like a champ!
