Need help to center the forum in the page

Post by dsarosh » Sat Mar 06, 2010 7:58 am

Hi,
I hope someone will help us with our question.
We are using the phpBB forum on our site and are highly appreciative for offering us this forum for free.

Please take a look at our site which is currently still on temporary hosting: http://ayurvedagoa.web2.webflow.de/

Then please take a look at the implementation of the forum:
http://ayurvedagoa.web2.webflow.de/forum/index.php

We have 2 requirements that I hope someone will help us with:

1) How do we center align the forum just like the main site is center aligned? Which CSS file has this settings?
2) How do i get the color theme of the forum to match the color theme of the site. There is only one uniform green code throughout the site, and we want this same green code on the forum too.

What I have done is changed the colors in /forum/styles/prosilver/theme/images of the files bg_header and bg_list. But this seems to be not sufficient, because you can see some blue and the colors look different in IE and in Firefox.

If someone can help us to get the forum center aligned on the page at least, we would be very obliged.
Thanks and awaiting a reply.

To make the forum fixed-width and centered, see this:
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/fixed-width-prosilver/

To change the colour scheme of the forum, you'll have to change pretty much everything, including some images. It may be easier if you look into the use of another style. You can find the styles demo here:
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/

A cursory exploration indicates that xandgreen may be a possibility. Give that a look and see if it would fit your forum. Additionally, it's already fixed-width and centered.

Good luck

Thank you very much,
You've been a great help. I got the forum center aligned in Internet explorer and Firefox, thanks a lot.

As a last favor, if you can visit here using internet explorer:
http://ayurvedagoa.web2.webflow.de/forum/index.php

you will see a small bit of blue color in the header section. under the main forum title. You will also see that the central box with "forum, topics, last post" is half green and half blue. Is there any way to fix these last 2 issues without changing the theme?

Thanks very much again.
Regards,
Sarosh.

Hi,

I see you've installed another style. I hope everything's working? :)

I think I might need your help once again.
When I had set up the ProSilver forum I had got the option to enter the title.
Now the title is no longer there.

We would like the title "Dr. Rohit's Ayurvedic Forum" on the top.

When I had set it up, I went to install/index and I think there it asked me for the forum Name. After doing that, I renamed install to install1.
Now when I go to http://ayurvedagoa.web2.webflow.de/foru ... /index.php it gives me options to convert, but I no option to enter the database name.

Can you please help us with getting the name on the top? We would like the name on the topmost greenheader that runs across the page.
Thanks again,
Sarosh.

You should be able to set the site name (forum title) by going to Administration Control Panel => General => Board Settings. There you can enter a site name and, if you want, a description that will also show in the forum header.

Hi,
I forgot to mention in my previous post that this information is already entered.
It displayed fine with the Pro Silver theme, but it is not displaying with this theme.

I even went to the board settings and removed the name and description and saved, and then added the description again. But it still didn't show up.

Is there some manual way by which I can get at least the name to appear in the top green banner area of the page?

Hi,
It's me again with a different topic.

My partner had made the settings such that the user does not require approval from a moderator for his post to appear on the forum.
I couldn't figure where this setting is. There are forums and permission and user permissions and global permissions, and I don't know where exactly to look for a setting.

What I would like is for a user to register his profile is approved immediately, and he should also be able to post his topic immediately. No moderator approval should be required before his post appears on the forum.

Can you please tell me where this setting is so that moderator action is not required for a registered user's post to appear?

Thanks.

Sounds like you a referring to the Newly Registered Users group. If you just want to change the required number of posts that require approval this can be done in ACP => GENERAL => User registration Settings => New members post limit. If you change the number there to "0", then no posts will require approval.

Regarding your issue with the style not showing the site name it would be best to ask at the site, or if from here, in the topic where you got the style from because it sounds like the style is missing the required HTML code to call the site name and description variables.

Does the new style use Prosilver template files?
if so check that in styles/prosilver/template/overall_header.html

search for this...

Code: Select all

<div id="site-description">
after it should be like this

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_INDEX}" title="{L_INDEX}" id="logo">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a>
				<h1>{SITENAME}</h1>
				<p>{SITE_DESCRIPTION}</p>
				<p class="skiplink"><a href="#start_here">{L_SKIP}</a></p>
			</div>
probably nothing but check the site description info is still in that file there.

and to the other problem...
I set permissions for newly registered users in forum permissions to standard access and after creating a test account new user can post fine without the need to be ok'd by a moderator.

Yep:) we sorted it out.
We are highly appreciative of using your forum, and the help you have offered here is really appreciated.

I am the one who made the simple site (it is now moved to http://ayurvedagoa.org) and is live on the net:)

The forum will eventually be managed by two doctors, one from Goa and the other from Germany. Both of them are not very comfortable with the technical stuff, and so I am serving as a bridge and trying to help them out to understand everything that is required for both the doctors to run and maintain the forum in the long run:)

We have got everything we wanted, and more, from the forum and all of us are highly appreciate for using it and also for your help.

As a last question....
I have pasted the google analytics code into all the php pages. I am going to do the same with forum/index.php also. Hope this is the right move:)

no,no.

you don't put anything in the php files.
you put the google code only in the overall_footer.html file for whatever style you are using.
