WOW

I had no idea these would be such a sucess. It was my first time releasing anything to the public, thanks for the suggestion and I will keep that in mind for further releases of my stuff. I may try my hand at a theme soon, I'll have to read up on it though. Also I will look into releasing Navy ones of these because they are the only branch that varies greatly from the other branches.

o3.gif is wrong... O3 is a Captain and you have a Major's gold leaf. :)

O4 is a Major, which is correct in o4.gif. You just have the gold leaf twice. A Captain's rank insignia is two silver bars side by side vertically, joined by two very small horizontal 'wires'

Took me like 2 hours to find a pic on the web and edit it to work with this set... *smack*

LOL seriously tho thanks for this set. Saved me a lot of work! :D

Army and Navy Ranks coming soon!!!

Also some time soon, British Military Ranks.

I need a host for some design stuff I've done, my personal webhost just doesn't fit my needs for that. If somebody would like to be a host for my creations, contact me. Some will include html templates, phpbb/phpnuke graphics/styles, and a few other things on my to do list. Email me if you think you can provide the space/bandwidth.

THIS WAS PERFECT!!! for one of my sites. I just found a layout last week and the ranks compliment the layout well.

it was a private site for family and friends to stay in touch during the beginning stages of the current war in Iraq (LOL @ CURRENT!!) http://ilovemytroops.com. but in March of this year when the war heated up yet again, I decided to make the site and board public, although the primary visitors and contacts are various military staff, including royal british army members. (still waiting to animate the flag sent to me by them, if anyone knows how to do that...hehe)

with the Army layout and the ranks, it's very very nice, all my friends and family in the military, including former Vietnam Vets really like it. not to mention, Marines are my favorite branch of service. :D

SO HATS OFF AND A BOW! :)

I hate to be a nit-picker, but as a former member of the US Army, I have to disagree with this statement. The Army enlisted ranks, while vaguely similar to the Marine Corp, are not "the same only in different colors". In addition to their design differences, their nomenclature are different as well (i.e. - Army E-3 = Private First Class, USMC E-3 = Lance Corporal). Thusly, they cannot be passed off as Army enlisted ranks in any way (well, except for, maybe E-2). I invite you to view the comparison chart at http://usmilitary.about.com/library/mil ... edrank.htm for further information.

Now, as far as commissioned rank (officers) - the design and nomenclature are the same up until you get to 5 stars, which the Army refers to as "General of the Army" and the Marines refer to it as "Commandant of the Corp" (both, of which, are unattainable in peacetime).

Now, that being said, that's some fine fine work on the avatars - quality job! I look forward to your Army submission (as I currently use an Army rank structure for my post rankings - having the avatars to go along with the ranking images would help to round out my board quite nicely). Keep up the good work!

As a Marine for 13 years, I have to make a correction to the last post. The Marine Corps does not have the rank of 5 star general. Only the Navy, Air Force and Army have the 5 star rank, which is only obtainable in war. The last 5 star, Omar Bradley, died in 1981. There has been no one with that rank since then. The highest ranking Marines are the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Assistant Commandant, both of whom are 4 star Generals.

Central Command, CENTCOM, is alternated between the Army and Marine Corps for command. During the period CENTCOM is commanded by a Marine, it is led by a Marine 4 star general, at those times there are 3 4 star generals in the Marine Corps: the Commandant, Assistant Commandant, and Commanding General of CENTCOM, otherwise the Marines only ever have 2 full (4 star) generals at one time.

I'm aware that the rank NAMES are not exactly the same as the army have specialists and so forth, but the ensignias are more or less the same, but yes, Army, Navy, Air Force, and British Army ranks coming soon as well as a theme based on the popular open-source game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Losan, you're absolutely correct - my mistake about the 5-star thing. I was tired... lol

quiteone - I don't want to sound argumentative, but USMC and USA enlisted ranks are distinctively different. With the exception of E-2 and E-9, one cannot simply change the colors and expect their insignia to be accurate. The crossed rifles on the Marine E-3, E-4, E-5, E-6, E-7and E-8 insignias and the Globe & Anchor on the E-9 insignia simply do not exist on the Army insignias. In addition, the Marine E-3, E-4 and E-5 insignias have (for lack of a better description) a rocker without a stripe to accomodate the crossed rifles - essentially making the overall shape of the rank different.

Again, I don't want to sound argumentative, but I don't want folks to think that they can just change the colors and viola! Army ranks! Yes, they are vaguely similar, but they would require much more work than simply changing the colors in order to be accurate. :)
