Re: [Alpha] Akismet for phpBB3

Hi,

Is there any new developments on this? I am currently looking to use this mod but also integrate with the ACP/MCP to report any spam posts to Akismet.

Or do I just go ahead and use my own mod?

Hi,

Apologies for the delay, been a bit too busy to dedicate much time to this. I'm looking at integrating it with the MCP/ACP but need to find a sensible solution on what to do with posts that are reported as spam to Akismet, would you prefer the option to just simply delete the post, ban the user or a combination thereof?

I managed to install this MOD with no problems. I got this message after installing:

Sign up for an API key over at Akismet then visit the "Spambot countermeasures" page of the ACP, enable Akismet checking and paste your API key into the box and save.

Trouble is I cannot find the "Spambot countermeasures" page anywhere in the ACP and I have gone through it page by page several times. Where am I going wrong? I am using phpBB 3.0.7-PL1.

Providing you have installed the MOD correctly the Akismet settings should be available in the Spambot countermeasures module which is under Board Configuration.

Mark,

Thank you for your response. I installed your MOD using AutoMOD 1.0.0.1. I then went to the "Details" section in AutoMOD to apply the changes to my customized template which is based on Prosilver. I got an error about duplicate keys to do with Akismet in the database and I removed them manually from the database. The installation then completed. I went to the Board configuration but still cannot see the Akismet settings. I am not sure what I am missing.

Hi,

I've just run through an install of the MOD using phpBB 3.0.8 and 0.0.2 of the MOD and everything seems fine. The screenshot http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1582264/akismet ... asures.jpg should show where the Akismet settings are in the ACP. If you still can't find them let me know via PM if you are happy for me to take a quick look at your board and see where things are going wrong.

Cheers,

Mark

I cannot PM you as I have less than 5 posts. Can I email you on your islandgeek email address?

I have so far failed to get the MOD to work. I even tried manually editing the entries that were created in the database. I set the entry for checking to 1 from 0 and inputted the Akismet key manually but spam keeps coming in. I have tried the Anti-Spam ACP MOD (http://lithiumstudios.org/forum/viewtop ... f=31&t=941) but it has failed to kill the spam. It gets most of it but I still have to manually delete spam every single day, several times a day. I have tried Akismet on Wordpress for several months and not a single spam entry has gotten through. Anybody out there with a solution? :(

Use the recommendations in this topic, Preventing Spam in phpBB3, particularly the built in Q&A plugin. The vast majority of spammers are bots and I haven't had a single spambot register since using that. The newly registered users group requiring post approval for the first post or two means you can catch any live ones that get through.
