Following the additional pages instructions

Post by chadrt78 » Sat Aug 06, 2011 8:22 am

http://wiki.phpbb.com/Adding_pages that link refers to a set of instructions for creating an additional page that uses the same theme and look as your boards. But I have checked and re copied/pasted the sample code a dozen times and it looks perfect when you are viewing it in Firefox and Chrome but it totally goes wacky in IE it is no longer centered, the right side shifts off can someone tell me what I did wrong?

I suppose it's because of the text which is printed in front of the document type declaration:

Code: Select all

aboutus_body.html:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

That did the trick thank you!! Where would I place php code within these pages? callsign_body.php or do I need to put it in another file and include it in callsign_body.php?

Thanks,
CT

How should I know? It's not part of a default phpBB 3.0.9 installation and I'm outside of your head...

Good point! (poorly worded question = a longer time to completion!)

Ok so callsign.php is the page I created in the main directory of the phpbb installation it opens callsign_body.php to display a custom page. That page will need to display a custom lookup from a custom Amateur Radio Callsign Database. The database is updated nightly with data from the FCC regarding US based Amateur Radio Operators.

I will not want the contents of that page to be cached as it will change dynamically with each lookup! So what I need is to place a code somewhere that when you POST cs=xx7xxx or the like it will do a custom lookup. Now the database is separate from the phpBB database so it will have its own connection strings and queries. Then when from any page in the site you will see the entry box for the callsign and a submit button that will take you to callsign.php and post the cs=k0kad (used my callsign as an example) for the lookup script to perform its routines.

This is not a 'scripting' forum, this is the phpBB3 support forum.
You might find some scripting support here http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewforum.php?f=71
It's worth a try, good luck.

ok, like he said, all of that is beyond what we can help you with.

the only point of using that method to create a custom page is so that you can use the phpbb sessions/permissions/header and footer for the custom page.

now what you have to do is figure out all the php/database stuff for what you want and them put it all in that custom html page.

if you want to use php in that html page you will have to make sure you turn on that capability in the admin panel under security settings.

then you have to use the correct variables for it to work.

I wish you luck with it,
