where is the language selection on frontend?

Post by sheba2 »

Hello, am new to phpbb and have installed the arabic in admin - unzipped and place files in directories. I am using the apple theme so I put the contents in styles folder into /public_html/forum/styles/Apple/imageset directory.

It shows language installed fine in admin. I don't see an option to select language on the frontend.

Is there an admin option to enable for languages?

Help!

Thanks for your attention.

The language for individual users can be set in their user profile under Board Preferences.

The default language for the board can be set in the ACP under General tab -> Board settings. The default language is what guests will see and will be the language that is the default when a new user registers.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I know each user can select desired language in their profile. If I am a visitor and do not want to register but want to read posts on the forum, how do I select my language so I understand what is written.

I look forward to your response.

The language setting does not translate what people have written. It only changes the language of the buttons and default text such as the registration page field titles and links to login/registration etc.

Visitors will see posts written in whatever language they were written in.

am confused. in this forum under Board Preferences, the only language available is British English. I have installed the language packs and if I choose french in the Board Preferences, I see what people have written in french.

The question is: How do I have a drop down with those languages on the frontend so the user who is not registered and/or does not want to register can select language?

Thanks.

Changing the board language does not translate posts.

I just installed French on my test board.

Here's a post written with the board in British English.

Here it is after I swap to French.
Only the language of the buttons and the board text change. The post is not translated in to French.

So, if you've seen that happen on someone elses board then they must be running some sort of translation MOD.
