You have to join up on the site and part of the set up asks you what version of phpBB you're using and it downloads the correct version for your install, allegedly. I don't know why they describe phpBB as a CMS though. If you have any problems you need to speak to Keycaptcha.

Are there any add ons that use Stop Forum Spam or Aksimet in 3.1? There was the Anti Spam mod for 3.0 but is not available on 3.1.

you don't need them in 3.1 nor did you need them in 3.0

If you use the built in Q&A with a good question that you can not google for the answer, that is all you need to keep 100% of the spam bots from registering.
using the post approval for the first post or two will stop most all the human spammers and that is all you will need.

We have the extended GD Captcha, the built in Q&A, which we even confirm against one of the profile fields filled in earlier by the new user (based on your location our Q&A is what hemisphere do you live in) this was and still is not enough. The Aksimet and Stop Forum Spam integration is preventing around 10 bot registrations a day for us. We still have one or two that come through every few days.

That is a somewhat pointless anti spam question as there are only two answers so a spam bot would get it right 50% of the time.

I now no longer support any of my extensions but they will start to become available here

   Even you got it wrong. 25% - there are 4 hemispheres. ;) Guess our Q&A would have prevented a human registration.

By definition hemi = 2 therefore there can only be two answers (but admittedly you could have north/south or west/east)

There are 4 hemispheres, however, if someone is in South Africa they are in both the Southern and Eastern Hemispheres, but since the question is singular either answer should be correct, so 25% + 25% is 50%.

any multiple choice question is very simple for the bots to get. they just keep trying with all the possible answers ( they look the question up in google to get the possible answers ) then they eventually get it right.

you need one question that the bots can not get the answer to .

no multiple choice
especially yes/no, questions like are you human.

no math questions, you can put any math question in google and get the answer in the first reply usually.

no middle characters etc. they have figured out how to answer those somehow.
no "what color is" questions. there are only a few colors that most people would know so the bots just keep guessing those colors until they get it right ( red, blue, black, white, yellow, green, purple, etc. )

the question needs to be something specific to your board or your topic that only a human can figure out the answer to.

something about the board logo is often a good one.

Technically, any great circle on a sphere defines a hemisphere, so there are infinitely many hemispheres possible. :D

For the Earth, we have chosen to only assign two great circles relevance -- the Equator (defining North & South hemispheres) and the Prime Meridian (combined with the 180 degree longitude line, defining East & West hemispheres).

The question is still of, er, questionable value, though....

Lumpy has pretty much summed it up, as to the many ways the bots have got around questions, hence my argument that using Stop Forum Spam or Aksimet is IMHO a far better option. The bots have not yet found a way around them.
