Do this
*NOTE: Before proceeding backup all files and the database.*
  • Upload all new files from a download of the full version, EXCEPT for config.php, the /images and /files folders.
  • Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
  • Let that run and then delete the install folder.
  • You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts but without any MODs that you might have had installed.

You will also need an up to date version of the style.

Read the sticky topic just above this post on preventing spam.

Thank you for your reply, but it didn't work. I downloaded a fresh package and uploaded it as you said, then I ran the database_update.php file with no error. But it didn't do anything. Still the same problem. What should i do now?

Thanks,

Robert

How?
Is the anonymous account still present?

manage users > tick the anonymous user box and submit.

Run this on your database. I have a feeling you've deleted the anonymous account which is messing things up.

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO phpbb_users (user_id, user_type, group_id, username, username_clean, user_regdate, user_password, user_email, user_lang, user_style, user_rank, user_colour, user_posts, user_permissions, user_ip, user_birthday, user_lastpage, user_last_confirm_key, user_post_sortby_type, user_post_sortby_dir, user_topic_sortby_type, user_topic_sortby_dir, user_avatar, user_sig, user_sig_bbcode_uid, user_from, user_icq, user_aim, user_yim, user_msnm, user_jabber, user_website, user_occ, user_interests, user_actkey, user_newpasswd, user_allow_massemail) VALUES (1, 2, 1, 'Anonymous', 'anonymous', 0, '', '', 'en', 1, 0, '', 0, '', '', '', '', '', 't', 'a', 't', 'd', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', 0);
Change the table prefix if yours is not phpbb_

Thank you, that worked. I have another problem though, if you look on the forum, you'll see that the topics and views count don't actually match with what's actually there also, it's still showing:
Total posts 157 • Total topics 153 • Total members 159 • Our newest member zlotylotos <== This member doesn't exist anymore.

Is there a way to fix all this?

Thanks

Robert

In the admin panel under the stats box there is a resync option. Try that.

Also in manage forums there's a green resync option next to each forum.

Hopefully that'll sort it out.

Also you can go to the database, choose all the tables and select optimise at the bottom of the page which might help.

We often see that problem when people have deleted vast numbers of spam accounts. I'm not sure I've seen a definitive fix though.

Also read this topic on how to stop more spammers signing up.

Thank you very much, It's all working great now, and I'm implementing the quick fix in UCP_REGISTER.php and installing a simple math captcha mod.

Much Appreciated,

Robert

what quick fix in usp register file?

and a math captcha is simply no good. the spam bots can figure those out.

use the built in Q&A captcha. so far is is working for most people as long as you use a non searchable question/answer.

robert
