Not off hand but there are probably topics in this forum where it's come up before.

You can make a temporary admin account and change your password through that.

In phpmyadmin, run the following, which will create an admin user named Admin1 with a password of admin. From that point you should be able to get into the ACP. Change your table prefix if it is not phpbb_.

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO phpbb_users (user_type, group_id, username, username_clean, user_regdate, user_password, user_email, user_lang, user_style, user_rank, user_colour, user_posts, user_permissions, user_ip, user_birthday, user_lastpage, user_last_confirm_key, user_post_sortby_type, user_post_sortby_dir, user_topic_sortby_type, user_topic_sortby_dir, user_avatar, user_sig, user_sig_bbcode_uid, user_from, user_icq, user_aim, user_yim, user_msnm, user_jabber, user_website, user_occ, user_interests, user_actkey, user_newpasswd) VALUES (3, 5, 'Admin1', 'admin1', 0, '21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3', '[email protected]', 'en', 1, 1, 'AA0000', 1, '', '', '', '', '', 't', 'a', 't', 'd', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '');
Executing SQL Queries in phpMyAdmin

As soon as you have done this, use the temporary admin account to change the details on the original admin account, then delete the temporary account.
This is because:
  1. anyone could use that account to log in to your board if you didn’t change the password.
  2. this temporary user has not been fully set up (e.g. it is not a member of the “Registered users” group, so it won’t have normal access to your forums).
To remove the account you will first need to remove “founder” status from it: ACP > USERS AND GROUPS tab > Manage Users > Admin1 > Overview > Founder = No

Well I've just looked in phpmyadmin in the converted board and after doing some username searches I'm getting the relevant info for each registered account but the passwords are all different from the original board, they look something like this... $H$8jBnfrRGBlo/iD7raFX35z4iIvIuXA/

I tried entering mine into the phpBB 3 login page but it told me it was incorrect. This is very strange. Is there anyway I can get the original passwords over from the old board? The conversion obviously could not do it.

Cheers,

The passwords are encrypted for security. You can't decode them.

Is it just your password that doesn't work or everyones?

Hi Kevin,

I found the email address in phpmyadmin that I originally signed up with when I first started the board 7 years ago so I've managed to request a password by email. I'll check that later. The main site uses a gmail address, that's what was confusing me.

Up to now it's just me who has tested it so far, the board is still closed at this point, haven't even got in yet to see how it is looking due to not removing the install folder yet. I'll do that once I've had a good look around in there.

Update, well I'm in now thank goodness. I found an old test login from ages ago and it logs in fine so it appears it was just me so far experiencing the problem. Very strange that. I'll know more once I open the board and make it live.

Cheers for your great help so far Kevin, no doubt I'll be picking your brain again. You've been brilliant.

Thanks,

Mack

Hi again,

Everything seems to be working now which is brilliant, I just need to rebuild the search index. It's different from phpBB version 2. Below is what I see...

Fulltext mysql

and

Fulltext native (active)

Which one of these do I click on? Do I click on the 2 at the same time or start one first then the other second? If so is there a specific order it needs to be done in.

Cheers again

That's great, thanks Kevin I'll give the msql one a try. Looks like it reduces the database by a third which can't be bad.

I know it's going to take ages though LOL thats why I've told everyone at to wait at least til the end of next Monday.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Hiya,

Just one more question regarding cookies. The old phpBB v2 board has the following cookie settings...

old phpBB2 installation folder name = Forum
cookie domain: .bootlehistory.co.uk
Cookie name: bootlehist_forum
Cookie path: /forum

Using the convertor to phpBB v3 it is giving different cookie settings...

phpBB3 installation folder name = Bootle-Forum
cookie domain: .bootlehistory.co.uk
cookie name: phpbb3_k2axi
cookie path: /

I want to now delete the old phpBB v2 installation which is in the "Forum" Folder and then rename the new phpBB3 installation which is currently in the "Bootle-Forum" to "Forum" so all the links to the main site to it without changing. Do I keep the current cookie settings that was set up in phpBB3 during the conversion or change them to the old phpBB V2 cookie settings?

ie: correct cookie path...

phpBB3 installation folder name = Forum
cookie domain: .bootlehistory.co.uk
cookie name: ?
cookie path: /?

Thanks,

Mack

Yep, that's fine, my members are logging in without any difficulty and everything is working fine.

I know I'm being crazily ultra cautious but I just know need to be 100% it's safe to now delete the old phpBB2 database. There's nothing in there that is still needed or connected to the new database? Can I just stick it in the bin now?

I'd be inclined to keep it for a couple of weeks and then download it, just in case.
