You can assume that the composer.json is always in the correct position in relation to the other files.

So if you can find the composer.json on github, you can pull the appropriate files... in theory ;).

As the packaging instructions have not been defined yet (or at least not published) then currently a developer can do as they want. Once the packaging instructions are published then there should be some degree of consistency.
The packaging guidelines won't tell how to put the extension on github :)

Upload Extension will copy a local zip file or a remote zip file to a tmp folder on your webserver.
It will try to unpack and locate the composer file.

If it succeeds it will read the composer file for folder instructions and create them in your ext folder.
Then it will copy all folders and files from composer location to the new ext folder and delete the tmp folder and if you want the zip file.

After this it will read the filetree and or readme.md and display this from where you can enable the extension.

I dont know if you understand what I mean, because I am not used to github. But it would be very convenient to just input the github-link into this mod and get the extension ready for install.

The same could also be said for those extensions that are going to be in the customization database on this site.

The extension can upload from a url but what we don't know yet is whether github is serving wrong metadata or phpbb is not able to read the metadata from github.

Holger wrote:Maybe a stupid question, but: many authors provide github-links to theire work. Would it be possible to include a possibility to directly transfer extensions from github?
Have you read the instructions inside the extension?
NOTE: Some servers (for example, github.com) don't support remote uploads.
I've tried to let the script to pull files from GitHub, but it is impossible with sockets.
I think that GitHub is blocking automatic requests so you need to download zip files from GitHub elsewhere (on local PC or on a remote server that doesn't block sockets) to be able to upload and install an extension.

I haven't tested zips from phpbb.com, but I think that it should be possible to upload extensions from this site by using a direct link. ;)

Hello!

Could you please give some more information or attach screenshots?

Have you downloaded the latest version of this extension from https://github.com/BoardTools/upload?

I have Russian language installed and it works fine.

Hi,

i installed on yesterday a fresh Board with phpbb RC5, downloaded on yesterday too from area51-board.
Today i download your latest zip from github, your link, and i install this.
My Board is in German language as default, for other extensions to install, i call your extension and its all in english. Cache is clear.

I make a screenshot and post it later.

reg. Mike
