For those you having trouble with Avatars and Smilies not showing, unless you refresh...

Go to ACP/General Tab/Server Settings and change Enable URL Rewriting to "Yes".

So is it safe now to install mChat on live forum or better wait for final release?

This will only work if your host allows url rewrite.

Code: Select all

On my forum we LOVE mChat. It is running fine but I've heard on more than one occasion, two requests. If there is a solution or existing way to overcome either, please forgive my comment regarding these issues:

1. We would like very much to have the ability for the user to login/logoff from chat. When someone leaves, we of course see that after a few minutes or so that the person is no longer chatting. Thats good but some on my site have conflicts with others and although it is understood that what you say is public within the forum, we'd like to know who on the forum is exactly reading (watching) the chats go by without making any comments while there. A logon/logoff option would be ideal as the people in chat would know EXACTLY who is in the room and who is participating either directly or passively. So, this long-winded explanation is to request this or understand how to implement it if already there.

2. I put mChat on our paid, hosted domain and we received a warning from the host that we exceeded on more than one occasion the limited number of data executions per month which is at 500,000. Of course this can be an error with how my php is setup but it happened directly after installing mChat and I was warned that its 5 (10) second checking whether someone was actively in chat or not was most certainly a contributing culprit to the sudden increase in these executions. This is another reason (maybe incorrectly or falsely) why I am requesting the logon/logoff ability. I setup a second very basic forum on a free host and installed mChat there. We use this second forum for no other reason than to chat and the data executions there are high as well but since nothing else takes place, so far, we've had no warnings from the free host.

So I suppose my requests are sort of for the same thing - a way to see who is actively in chat by way of logging in. Then a way to stop the constant checking for input by logging out (turning off chat?), hence lowering the amount of data executions.

Thank you, and if this reasoning is incorrect, please advise.
