[Poll] Community Choice: Next Official Extension

Now the extension development team can use what we've learned here as we plan to begin work on our next official extension.

I find it a bit sad that out of almost 456k members only 101 (at the time of posting) have bothered to vote. No doubt the remainder will be the ones bemoaning the fact that their "essential" extension has not been created.

I have wrote it up thread, but promoting this poll to an announcement and having it appear on the main phpbb.com page, would have increased exposure...
Also, linking to the poll from the phpbb facebook page (as a post) would have helped.
I see it was tweeted on may 12th, so that's good.

And an equally tiny amount actually go to the home page. The most visited area seems to be Titania but would be kind of out of place to put anything there for advertising this.

In my experience, it does not matter where you post any announcement. The vast majority of users post their message, then only visit the forum by following the email link to a new reply.

The same goes for rules and FAQ's. The only people who have actually read them are the people who wrote them.

Its just the sad gits like me that look through everything

That's a very sweeping statement. Not everyone is out to make money from forums (and I dare say few do).

The PayPal one will be used by a lot of clubs that need people to pay subscriptions to access information for members. That money is often used to provide services for those people, book venues for meetings or events, refreshments for them, produce flyers, leaflets and other club items like medals or winners cups and pay for advertising.

Large boards make use of the ad manager one to pull in money from sponsors to pay for the expensive dedicated hosting they often need to exist as well as some of the other items listed for the PayPal one.

Advertisement Management - just becouse this one is the best extension what phpBB has for the advertise. Only 4 votes missed

If the vote had stayed open longer, surely the result would be different because many people only learned about it after closing, and even then voted by post.
