SQL for phpBB 3.0 to 3.1

Post by bearqst » Sat Apr 30, 2016 4:32 am

Had major site crash and I have the SQL and files for the old install that was a 3.0.11. I've reinstalled a new board using 3.1.19, anyway (or mod) to convert the SQL files to import from the old to the new ?

don't need anything. just upload the 3.1.9 folder named install back to the server.
make sure your config.php file is pointing to the old database and
then go to: yourdomain.com/yourphpbb/install/database_update.php
keep clicking the continue button until it gives you a success message.
it may take some time, don't give up.

Thanks Robert,

Do I then point the config back to the site dB after that? Wondering about the other tables in the dB using the 3.1.19.

My concern is the size of the old dB, it is 18.2 MiB and phpMyAdmin has a size limit of Max: 1,024MiB for import. I'm not a dB guy, so struggling to solve this one.

Thanks Stevemauury

Problem I have is the old site is down and the SQL file resides in a folder on my local machine. So I'm good until I get to item 3, server config. The old SQL doesn't currently reside on a server, I just have the backup from phpBB 3.0.11. I reinstalled phpBB using 3.1.19 as I didn't have a copy of the 3.0.11 to install with and
upgrade.

I'm having issues trying to use the old SQL and import it to the new SQL for phpbb 3.1.19.

Looking at the data in the SQLs, there is about 7 different data fields between the two and I can't figure out how to modify the old one to allow me to import the Users/posts to the new one. Keep getting errors from PhpMyAdmin when I try.

create a new blank database on the server. import your old 3.0 backup to that new blank database.
now, edit your new 3.1.9 config.php file to point to that 3.0 database.

now, upload the 3.1.9 folder named install and run the database_update.php file
then, delete the folder named install.

done.

The link to Bigdump in the article is bad. Try this - http://webscripts.softpedia.com/script/ ... l#download

Install 3.011, import the database then upgrade. You are overthinking this.

ahhhh, spent the day uploading the SQL tables one at a time.

DL'd the 3.0 and 3.0.11 that 3di pointed me to.

Ran the install and now I get errors
General Error
template->_tpl_load_file(): File ../adm/style/install_main.html does not exist or is empty

BACKTRACE

FILE: (not given by php)

I tired following roberts directions, uploaded the install file, mod'd the config to point to the old dB, but all it gave me for an options was to update from a 2.0 Ver and running that only gave me more errors and never a success message.

Guess I'm back to step one.

There is a little bit of confusion in here.

We cannot use flesh for a vegan recipe, so to speak.

1 - d/l a fresh full package of 3.0.11
2 - install it as a fresh Board, an empty one.. and delete the install folder. Do nothing else.
3 - import your old 3.0.11 DB on it using bigdump in order to repopulate it as it was.
4 - you then probably need to adjust some little bits, in config.php if I correctly recall (like password and username should match the DB backup ones)

There have been a mix of suggestions. Try this and let us know.

To add:
once you got the 3.0.11 working you can update first to 3.0.14 and only once also this step is done you could consider to upgrade to 3.1.9... following the steps required.

Every step followed by the other one etc..

Thanks 3Di

Was just getting ready to wipe the site and start over, which I think I'll do anyway.

GoDaddy has some issues, to say thee least in what I can and can't do. Of course its most likely me :)

I'm going to start from fresh and install 3.0.11 and hope I can get the dB stuff to take. GoDaddy modifies their dB, for example, I created a new dB and uploaded all the tables then discovered that they added ".bb" to the data base name. But as I learn more on their system I think I'm getting closer to a resolution with the help you all have given.

Of course this would of gone better if my Well didn't quite this morning and require a few hours of attention before I could take a shower..

Again, thanks for every ones help.

:o I already dumped HostGator, have to say that GoDaddy's support has been excellent. HostGator took 30 days to answer my questions, after the fourth question I dumped them.

Not use to having to use a host, always had my own web servers until recently.

GoPappy is well known as a no-no for phpBB, try and search this site with
such a keyword (the original one :) )
