Re: [3.3][RC] [3.1][3.2][RC] PhpBB IUM (Inactive User Manager/reminder)

Post by Sepp71 »

I would like to post my experiences with this extension: I am just running it to "clean up" the user database for a board with about 700 - 800 users.
Quite a lot of them have only registered to ask a single question, get the answer and then disappear without deleting their account over the last years.
Sending the e-mails (with a max. of 250) and auto-deleting works fine.
Clean up means, that I have put the period for reminders down to 10 days and move any user who logs in at the moment to a special group "Ignoring" to avoid bothering "normal users" with sleeper reminders.
First point:
Now I get about 30 - 70 undeliverable mails per day, most of them from mail servers of public administrations, enterprises and law firms, so I start wondering if this will bring my forum-e-maily account on a spam blacklist.
Deleting them manually is a lot of work, if the user names are not included in the "undeliverable" notices.
Second point:
At the moment with IUM working users that are no longer interested in my forum get at least 4 E-Mails, until they are finally out (reminders 1 - 3 and Deletingconfirmation). From my point of view, this is definitely too much - and that is what some of the users reply to my reminders, too: "Stop spamming me", "Simply delete and shut up" and so on. One of them is a lawyer and his reply of this kind motivated me to post ths problemhere.
I cannot motivate them to self-delete their accounts because it requires a log-in - with a password lost etc. this seems to be too much for those users.

I would like to suggest, to keep the IUM going with somewhat less e-mail traffic (e.g.: only one reminder, then auot-delete with confirmation).
From my point of view it could also be made possible to self-delete an account without logging in.
Thanks!
Sepp

Thank you for stating your thoughts/ideas.
They will be considered on my future updates of the ext.
For now I am trying to validate it so it can go to the CDB of phpbb.
Here is what I am working on right now...

Feature suggestion...

Would it be a easy change to give option to choose how many emails sent per hour instead of per day?
Thanks in advance for a reply.

I apologize for writing through the translator. When visiting the forum via a reminder, it is correct to reset the counter of the departed emails . Users who visit on a reminder are still deleted after three cycles. Thank you I really like the extension

PHPBB 3.3.3
PHPBB Inactive User Manager 1.1.8-RC

Probably the translator conveyed the essence incorrectly. The extension works correctly. Idea: Reset the number of sent messages if the sleeper visited the forum. When I see the example, I will send a screenshot. Thanks

Hello! We just updated to the latest version. We are still huge fans of this EXT, so thanks, Andreas. :)

One question: in the mail, the sender is [email protected]. How could that be changed to just, for example, Website.com? :)

EDIT: Wow, congrats on validation! I will ask there. Sorry...
