Import from vBulletin 4.2

Post by Zylantex »

Is it possible to import from vBulletin 4.2.0 to phpBB 3.1.10?

Has anybody done this? Any hints or tips?

What do you mean by "import"?

Do you mean convert a vBulletin board to phpBB 3.1? If so then I do not believe that there is a convertor but you may want to look in the Convertor forum

If, on the other hand, you mean can you just import various bits of data from one to the other then I have not seen any method of doing that and you will almost certainly need an extension.

My hope was to amalgamate a rival forum which is running on vB4.2 into our forum. The other forum is faltering but it has a solid database of historical posts and content which I would be glad to have.

Sadly it seems however that it may not be possible. I have already discovered that migration from phpBB to vB will never happen.

Never say never.

It will be virtually impossible to "merge" the two databases even if you were able to convert it.

One idea might be to make the VB board "read only" (to prevent further postings) and then create a forum in your phpBB board to be a link to the VB board.

You're right. It's not actually impossible, there are specialist firms who will do the conversion at a cost but for hobby forums it's not worth the money.
