In principle not much, but it is in a simpler format which allows sorting and filtering. For instance you can, if you wish/need, sort by IP address to see if multiple users are using the address.

It is my use case and I solved my self (I use it for developmemental stuffs), means I now have the IP lookup of those IPS as a visive Country Flag. Since the iso_code it is already stored in the users' table on a per user/session's basis.
Others use cases I would imagine the same testing purposes when it comes to bridge some CMS based on sessions or the likes. The users table it's already joined there as well, a nice piece of an extension.
Also for different purposes off the one you coded it for.
