This is a feature to fix rendering errors/blurriness on high-DPI displays. It is because your browser is caching the older, lower-resolution images.

Most people can do a "full reload" with Ctrl+F5. Because that is the full package and you need them for a new install.
You can expect that they will not be made available for quite a while, should not even assume it will be a temporary thing. Just follow the link provided on the page you quoted for updating.
There are enough problems with people not using the most appropriate package already without introducing any more.
