Newbie formating question...

Sorry, I am new to phpBB...so I am not sure if this is the best place to post this question. I am trying to setup a pretty basic and scaled down forum with two main groups of categories. And looking for something like this example from the Showcase: http://forum.citiesxl.com/

I don't really want the Who's Online or Stats...and would like to add Ad banners at top and bottom...and if possible between the two parent categories.

So, like in the example site...I would only have the FORUM category in blue (with its sub categories), and the CITIES XXL category in blue (with its sub categories)...a custom banner at top and bottom...and if possible on between the blue parent categories. And for login and registration maybe just two buttons or text links.

Can someone help this newbie? Thank you so much.
