What's wrong? Set up installation data

Post by snowyrabbit » Sat Sep 16, 2017 4:26 pm

1&1's support is a bit lacking so I need help here please... because they couldn't help me and as much as I like talking to people in foreign call centres who are stumped.. I'd rather not..

I am with 1&1.
I have created a MYSQL database for phpbb.
I have uploaded phpbb to my web area and unzipped it.
I have begun to install phpbb.

But I cannot proceed past 'set installation data' (Database configuration

Error message is

Could not connect to the database, see error message below.
php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

Database type: MYSQL
Database server hostname or DSN:
DSN stands for Data Source Name and is relevant only for ODBC installs. On PostgreSQL, use localhost to connect to the local server via UNIX domain socket and 127.0.0.1 to connect via TCP. For SQLite, enter the full path to your database file.

dbXXXXXXXX.db.1and1.com

Database server port: XXXX

Database username: dbXXXXXXXX

Database password: XXXXXXXX

Database name: XXXXX XX XXXXXX

Prefix for tables in database:
The prefix must start with a letter and must only contain letters, numbers and underscores.

Help me OB1 Kenobe. You are my only hope.
I know this question has been asked many times but those responses didn't make much sense to me either....

First problem - do not unzip on the server always unzip on your local machine and then upload the files.

Could not connect to the database
Means that the credentials that you entered do not match those of the database that you created

hi thank you for your reply.

I will delete what I have and start again, this time upload the unzipped files.

However.. dI am still unsure what I should put in this field:

Database server hostname or DSN:
DSN stands for Data Source Name and is relevant only for ODBC installs. On PostgreSQL, use localhost to connect to the local server via UNIX domain socket and 127.0.0.1 to connect via TCP. For SQLite, enter the full path to your database file.

do I put:
localhost
or do I put:
db69924XXXX.db.1and1.com

Thank you

normally you get that info when you make a new database and a user.

If you can't remember make a new one or ask your host for the settings.

Have you asked 1&1, server set up is there job so should be able to tell you? Didn't you get an email from your host with the server info when you signed up?
