Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

And floppy disks that wouldn’t work between machines because of mechanical restraints, read/write heads not lining up. I used to carry my own floppy drive to be sure. Not the good old days in my opinion, in fact it was a massive pia! The only reliable piece of kit I had was my Dragon32.
