Yes John, I know. I have been fighting with this problem for two years. I knew the boards would go down at some time and they were manageable for that time. But now trying to save the old data has become impossible. It's OK, I have resigned myself to having to lose the old information and I think the members have also.

We'll just start anew. I actually have two boards on Best Boards servers. I got the other one up and working on phpBB and am now working on this other one. The addy for the one I didn't mention is here. http://new49ers.x10host.com/phpBB3/inde ... e67a6214dd I think it came out pretty nice for my never done anything with phpBB before.

It is also a gold mining board, similar but different in it's membership and information.

Thank you for trying to help John, I appreciate it a lot.

I would suggest that as soon as you can, you get the database backup for each of those boards and move them to a paid host somewhere.
x10 does not have the best rep for keeping your sites going and accessible.

you really can't trust any free hosting to not simply disappear when their hosting bill comes due and they decide not to pay it.

Yeah, I second that. I've used x10 hosting before and they don't even allow php mail. Well, about three years ago when I used them.

If you need help finding a host check here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

I use Namesilo for my domains. You don't want to use your host for the domain, and make sure you turn on the privacy feature. I believe Namesilo has that on by default and it's free.

Thanks John, good info; although I have been using X10 for my other websites, which are not forums for years with no problem. they do also provide paid hosting. I'll make a decision later, too busy getting these forums up right now.

I would like to ask another question while I am posting; is there a way to put any kind of advertising or banner ads on these phpBB boards?

you can do whatever you wish with your board.
there is an extension for putting ad banners in several different places on the board via the admin panel.

It worked like a charm Robert, thanks for the help. Here's a link so you can see how well this and other features worked. http://alaskagoldforum.x10host.com/phpbb/index.php
