We have a small LMS (Learning Management System) we call "Inspire LCMS" created in Cold Fusion and would like to add a discussion board feature using PHPBB via an API. Basic requirements are:
• Ability to integrate with Inspire LCMS. PHP and SQL Server (or MySQL would be do-able) number 1 preferred. Number 2 preferred would be an easy to use API. Need to be able to dynamically add participants and (preferably) bypass any log in screen.
• Ability for an instructor / course developer to create a discussion topic for a specific course.
• Ability for students assigned to the course to post responses to the discussion topic.
• Ability for an admin person (probably the instructor) to view the number of posts for each student, and some way to read what the posts say (the text posted by the student).
• Ability to create break out groups (perhaps 3-6 students per group).
• Ability to limit the number of responses per topic.
• Ability to limit the availability (date/time frame). This will likely be handled by Inspire by setting a date/time range for the content object.
• Ability for the instructor/admin to be a participant. This will be handled by Inspire.
• Ability to add an attachment to a post (image, document, etc.)
• There could be more than one topic posted by the instructor for a given course. This will be handled by Inspire since you can have more than one discussion board content object.
