I only recently upgraded from phpbb v2 to v3 so I'm neither caught up with the system nor the procedure.
v3 as in 3.0?

I read above where some extensions might stop working. Should I disable all extensions before updating?
Since you mention extensions your version should be at least 3.1
And yes it always best to disable extensions before updating AND to check whether they are compatible with the version you're upgrading to.

If I use the Automatic Update Package will the subsilver style I'm using continue to work? I really need to keep that so should I wait for the style update, if one comes?
subsilver was a style for phpBB2 (not even for 3.0) so I suspect you're confusing with subSilver2.

Depending on which version you want to update from the instructions differ slightly.
You're probably wanting to upgrade to 3.3 so then the upgrade instructions are https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... radeguide/

However I suggest you post the Support Request Template to provide precise information so that advice given is relevant to your phpBB version, and to use a new topic.

Crizzo,

Yes, the "Allan Style - SUBSILVER" is the one I'm currently using. My visitors are old and set in their ways. Even a minor change results in brain damage. So I'll have to bide my time until something is ready.

warmweer,

I'm currently on 3.2.7. The up-grade from 2.x was traumatic. But the good news is I'm catching up. And the automatic update package looks and sounds like a great system.

Regarding extensions, thanks. Disabled they will be.

I didn't use the Support Request Template because I felt my questions were general. But your point is taken. I'll be more specific in future. Thank you.

Thanks to you both.

Just to clarify about the emoji aliases in the topic title:
Aliases are ‘converted’ to their actual emoji counterparts by the s9e textformatter. Post texts are put through the formatter, while post titles are not. Therefore aliases are not converted. The only change is, is that actual emoji are no longer stripped from the post titles as they can be savely stored and displayed.

Should styles from 3.2 still work with 3.3?

Dang nice! :D

I am wondering if extensions like pico reputation works for 3.3? That's the only reason I've been stuck in 3.2.3 version scared it would break the extension.

Also if i decide to upgrade, should i go from 3.2.3 to 3.2.x sequentially or directly to 3.3?

Cheers

You should ask the extension author to see if it compatible.

That's something for the extension topic itself.

As usual, there is no need to upgrade in steps. But, as usual, a database backup is the first step should anything go wrong (timeout perhaps if you have a very large database), and in that case a go between via 3.2.9 might help).
We should embrace problems, without which there wouldn't be any solutions.

and to have the best chance of a direct upgrade to work, you should follow the instructions exactly and in order.

Alright thanks. Just did some googling and it seems a solution was posted for pico rep extension issue.

There also seems to be an issue with Google search console sending messages about breadcrumbs which also has a fix posted here.

So that's good 👌. I think I'll do test upgrades first and see what other issues are there and if any solutions before doing it on production site.

Cheers

PS: Love the emojis 😍💩

Hi

Unless I am mistaken, it seems to me that there is an omission of modification if bg_header.gif and bg_list.gif files are deleted.
in theme/tweaks.css
find and delete (line 31):

Code: Select all

.headerbar, .forumbg {
	background-image: url("./images/bg_header.gif");
}

.forabg {
	background-image: url("./images/bg_list.gif");
}
