Locked out after new install

Post by FCAC »

Hi!

I've just installed the board through dreamhosts, latest version 3.3.0 with install style.
I have tried to install 4 times, successfully..........BUT
Each time, as soon as I log off or time out, I just cannot relogin at all!!!!
My email is not even recognized, neither to reset password nor to send contact note.

Could you help please?
Thank you

If by that you mean you used a "one click" method of installation then that is a common problem.

The files you have used are not the files from phpBB therefore nobody here knows what the problem is. I would suggest that you delete everything and start again by using the files that can be downloaded from this site.

Thank you sir.
Yes this is a one-click install.
After reinstalling it a 5th time i came to realize one thing:

It works and has always been working BUT....
no on the Chrome browser.... It works perfectly fine in IE 🤔

Is that common and is there anything that I can do before i engage in the great endeavor of manual install please?

Thank you

Should never use the one click installers, there's always issues that come with it.

First of all it's not uncommon that 1-click installs have some problems, perhaps not initially but likely when updating or upgrading. This becomes more apparent once there are extensions involved and more so with custom edits.

PS: you mention having installed 3.3.0 yet you posted in the 3.2 Support Forum?
Requesting a move as I write: well not exactly: I have to submit first.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

There are a number of posts on this board about problems with some versions of Chrome. From memory there are some possible solutions posted.

There is nothing that difficult with a normal install - follow the instructions and it should take no more that 10 - 15 minutes from start to finish.

The first stop is to have cleared the cookies from your local web browser, or test using Chrome in an Incognito window so that it ignores any local cookies and will test logging in without considering them.

There seems to be some issue where phpBB can "know that the session which has been persisted via cookies or the URL is no longer a valid session for you to re-use." But for some reason either new Set-Cooke directives aren't sent, or they are sent with data that doesn't correct the problem. phpBB users who are doing new manual installs have reported this same "install was successful, but now I can't login" even when using the phppp.com-downloaded installation files.

If you happen to be using Chrome on a mobile device, the turning off the "Lite Mode" in Chrome settings could be necessary. Although "Incognito mode" will bypass that issue as well, for testing purposes.

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!

I will definitely try the incognito test.
I will also do a more thorough search here for the Chrome issue.
It works on my mobile Chrome and on my main PC's Chrome.... The problem has been identified to me on my laptop's Chrome.
All failing, I thing that you have encouraged me to finally thinking that maybe it's about time I learn how to manually installing these things
o, and btw, thanks for the move :)

Thank you again, everybody, I appreciate your time and help!
