Tapatalk..... yay or nay??

Post by dbrewood »

I've been running Tapatalk on my site and the readership say they can't manage without it, but I keep coming across developers saying not to use it.

Are there any solid documented reasons not to run it?

I'm concerned that if I did stop using it I'd lose a lot of prospective posts?

Although I have not looked at it for a while one of the major problems with Tapatalk is that it bypasses phpBB's logging in process and as such violates GDPR

No big problems you are aware of.

viewtopic.php?f=64&t=2469156

I would consider that a big problem and there has been many others just as bad.

As well, back in the day tapatalk failed phpBB approval, it wasn’t resubmitted for whatever reason and since then it’s been a catalogue of problems including security issues, new users having moderation permissions, issues after they took over Yuku and Zetaboards (there may be more) and I see they’ve been removed from play store. As a company they don’t have a very good rep at all.

Exactly! Following your instructions, the forum opens as if it were PWA with the shortcut "Add to Home Screen".

An exstensions for phpBB has not arrived.

No mate, tapatalk is silly. Make your forum mobile friendly and you'll be fine. Tapatalk is one of the most annoying things you can encounter on a forum and will cause your bounce rate to skyrocket.

Would never use this service. Why should any other service benefit from your hard work without compensation?
