My question would be why? I mean Generation Z is a mile away from the genres you mention. Were you influenced by your parents, was it peer pressure?
Given the quality of a lot of the music of that generation and today I don't find this surprising. They aren't even bands anymore, it's a singer that was pushed through because of their looks. They didn't work their way through the bars and small venues to gain popularity through their fan base and radio air play. You can probably blame MTV starting with the popularity of the hair bands including Bon Jovi. There is a laundry list of of forgotten bands from that era that may have only had a few albums.
An ugly ass Bon Scott with his crooked teeth would not make it in today's music scene. A Geddy Lee voice is not going to make it in today's scene. I mention Geddy Lee because a lot people don't like his voice, my Brother for example made the comment I wish he would just stop singing and just play the instrumental. That is talent, they could go out on stage, never sing a word and still keep the crowd pumped.
A lot of the music I listen to today was made before I was born, once again I was a teen during that hair band era so there is not a whole lot of stuff that stands out as timeless. So I'm in similar situation. Bon Jovi is pretty good but for each Bon Jovi there is ten bands that are forgettable from that era.
One band I will mention that is standout and not listened to much is Tesla. They have a live acoustical album called "Five Man Acoustical Jam" where they do some of their songs and some covers that is excellent.
