If you are not really aware of what Win11 can offer to very experienced users, don't worry, stay with Win10.

My Win10 is actually an updated Win8 (and the install CD is long gone).
This implies transferring the old OS (Win10) to a new boot disk (something I haven't done since Vista).
:? Please get informed about all of that. Based on what you are posting it seems that you are not really expert here.

Blimey, are you the backup for China Mobile? How do you fill a 6TB drive?

Ha yeh👍🏼 I’ve got a 2TB backup drive with 20 years worth of Cubase & Reason with full orchestra type files mainly text I admit but there’s also a ton of sound files and a few movies and I’ve hardly scratched the surface.

Actually 6TB is only half full (luckily) (and is now my entertainment drive containing my music (transferred from the 3TB) + movies + documentaries I still have to watch or want to rewatch sometime in the future).
The 2TB contains all my phpBB stuff (since 2002) (but is over 90% full)
The 64 GB USB stick has documents I always keep with me + various versions of USB webserver and everything needed for testing anything phpBB-related ( + music for on the road).

Most of the rest is backups of work (since about 1998). I guess I can ditch at least 50% of that but I dread having to go through the whole structure to find out whether it could still be useful (probably not). (I will keep my old DOS games though: Prince of Persia, Doom, etc...) nostalgia 8-)

If I reach retirement age I might sort it all out, perhaps, maybe, if I ever get the energy to start on that  (probably not)

Edited: I was writing this and apparently while restructuring, deleted stuff and then posted without looking so had to add)

Wow, my whole phpBB stuff since 2001 is not more than 30 MB. :o

So do not try to update it. Simple.
What should this comment? Really!
It's logical that you can't update an incompatible computer. But it's totally crass that even newer PCs are incompatible.

I'ld rephrase that to: put a lot of really large files or directories on it.
A 1.44 MB floppy could easily store a couple of the old DOS games. A thousand of those don't even put a dent in it. Even the games on CDs don't use all that much space.
My whole collection of Unreal and Unreal Tournament + all custom maps and mappacks hardly totals 15 GB

i upgraded my laptop to it but haven't done desktop yet which is compatible

for those of you that don't meet the tpm and cpu requirement there is a registry edit you can do which will allow you to upgrade
you don't necessarily need tpm in fact you can disable it if your on win11

warmweer you don't need a new bootdisk you can run the upgrade on that drive without a cd using Windows 11 Installation Assistant
if you want to create a bootable dvd or usb drive you can use Windows 11 Installation Media or download the iso straight from Microsoft for free

I know it is logical, indeed.

Not a good idea to scratch the surface of a disc drive - unless you have it all backed up on another drive
