if you want to create a bootable dvd or usb drive you can use Windows 11 Installation Media or download the iso straight from Microsoft for free
Yeah, I read something about that but didn't look at the details as I'm not planning on updating soon.

But come to think about it, it is useful info as I can probably also make a bootable installable Win 10 on USB (currently I don't have a bootable OS on disk, nor on USB for my PC).
Thanks for the :idea

This implies transferring the old OS (Win10) to a new boot disk (something I haven't done since Vista).
If you are just adding a new disk and Win10 is activated on it you don't need the 8 disk. You can do clean install of 10 and it should activate fine. I did this with numerous PC's when 10 came out but you had to first upgrade 7/8 to 10 and activate it. Once activated then you could do a format and clean install of 10.

You can download ISO from here. Might require a few tricks to get the link. I know at one point you could switch the user agent to Safari and it would work.

There are some very interesting new features in Win11 for which I have found the update I am completing this very evening in the background worthwhile. I'm not talking about small graphical changes or anything trivial, for which I would definitely have skipped this job.

I have the same problem with my graphics card, each time the update installed after restarting I would get a BSOD (black screen of death) so I would have to go into safe mode to rewrite the graphics card driver and then everything fine again until the next update.

I would imagine a lot of people who switched their PC on to a black screen would have called someone out and wasted money, I'm not going to buy a new graphics card though as I don't do gaming so am more than happy with the one that I have installed.

As per the subject. Many companies worldwide don’t upgrade their systems because MS or Apple say so. The last firm I worked for were still using XP when 8.1 was announced. The reason was XP was doing what they expected of their system, there was no retraining or new hardware required and they were still getting support. It keeps the MCSE boys and girls employed. Take ups will increase once the product or hardware is no longer supported.

This for one
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/window ... te-package

and then be able to use android apps etc... but all this is for experienced users like developers. For the normal user, however, I see that there are some pretty nice things that I really appreciate for now, it's only been a few days since I updated.

What worries me is FireFox browser, I see some problems at developer level, I can't focus at the moment and so I'm using EDGE (a scandal for me)...

thanks to our god also IE has been removed, yay. :D

I forgot to mention, with the advent of Win7 “record what you hear” was removed which made a massive impact on one of my pastimes. This alone would have stopped me upgrading from XP had I been aware. Lesson learned, check what MS have buggered up before leaping.

Depends on what you are doing but ideally you extract the audio track, e.g if it's DVD. Any conversion from source with video/audio/images is all down hill as far as quality goes.

If that is not possible there is various workarounds for this. Audacity should be able to handle this but it depends on the hardware. Worse case is plugging a mini jack cable from the audio out into the mic jack. That's hackish but it will work.

I’m aware of the other methods and, in fact, the methods I used before “record what you hear” were added. I also understand why MS removed it but the simple existing warning that copying and distributing copyrighted material was illegal without a licence would have been preferred. The thing is I was copying and editing my own material and mixes for a weekly radio show using Soundforge and Pro Tools (both of which I paid for at great expense I might add) which suddenly became redundant until I found a workaround. For all Audacities claims that you could use its own “record what you hear” I could never get it to work properly and imo it’s an inferior product to Soundforge and or Pro Tools.

I'm a big fan of Windows, I've been with them since the days of loading Windows 3.1 on with floppy discs, it's come a long way and I think the free updates from Windows 8 onwards have been fantastic, if there are tools in there that developers can use or it encourages people to get into developing that's a good thing.

When Windows 3.0 was released, I really thought this was going be a total flop and it wasn't until Vista that I started to feel more or less comfortable with the GUI. Still, even these days I prefer a Norton Commander like file manager.

WinNC is probably good (I only have experience with the original DOS NC) but I've been using a different one (since DOS) which is more configurable (at least from what I can read about NC).
