Stop Forum Spam

Post by jaunty_mellifluous »

Hi,

I did search a few spam related forums but didn't find the exact same spam messages in those. So that's why I am posting in a new topic.

I have installed "Spam Remover" that works via Akismet form the phpbb extensions. It seems to be working at user registration level. But I don't find a setting to stop spam messages filling forums via bots.

Attaching screenshots.

Is there another extension or a setting that I can use to remove these? Because I have to go and delete these messages on a daily basis.

To receive extension support please visit our Extensions Database and post in the specific extension's designated support area. The link to the support area for each released extension is also available in the first post of each released extension listed in the [3.3.x] Extension Database Releases forum. For extensions still in development (not recommended for a live board) support is in that extension's topic in the Extensions in Development forum.

or, stop the spammers from ever registering and/or posting to start with.
that solves the problem.

it is simple, use the built in Q&A anti spam system with one good question that google can not find the answer to and you have stopped all the spam bots.
set new users to have at least one post approved before they can make any others. that will stop just about any other human spammers.

done.

Then go in and delete your spam users. If they cannot re-register, then your problem is solved.

The Stop Spam Register extension by AlexSheer (works with phpBB 3.3.5) filters the registration of users (spam prevention) whose IP addresses, usernames or email addresses are blacklisted by the Stop Forum Spam service.

Your registration page is actually running the old black and white CAPTCHA letters. That was beaten years and years ago.

Incidentally your style has a lot of issues. Your register and login links don't work unless you get the mouse on a 1 pixel wide invisible line below the text. When I did follow the link I was asked if I was born before a date, then had the T&Cs and then asked about my age again and then taken to the reg page. The big ads at the top also push half the page of the screen on a laptop so I was constantly having to scroll down (which is annoying from a user point of view).
